Red face Re: What is your personal stance on using Plaques in a US cash game?

When we break out into a cash game using the plaques it usually has $0.25, $1, & $5 chips and $10, $20, $50 plaques.

Reason for the denominations this way is that it's easily exchangeable for cash. 1 chip or one plaque gets you a tangible bill/ coin out of the kitty and vice versa. Plus, it makes it easier to integrate new players/ re-buys. Someone buys in for $30 and we're out of small chips? Just toss them a $10 and a $20 plaque, let them make change, and they're in business.

Not everyone in our game loves them, but nobody argues with it too much considering that the next highest chip up in most sets is $25 which is a little too high for our .25/50 games and the fact that it keeps the game moving.

Re: What is your personal stance on using Plaques in a US cash game?

If there was a case available that stored both chips and plaques then I'd be more interested.

If security is a concern, can plaques be hot-stamped or lazered?

Post Re: What is your personal stance on using Plaques in a US cash game?

I think plaques in a cash game would be great.

One of the poll options is "the denoms are too high", but the fact that (stock) plaques are commonly made with such large denominations, I don't think has anything to do with anything ** when you're talking about using them (or wanting to use them) for a cash game ... because someone could just have some done with the denominations that suit the needs of their home game.
** Although I can see why people would shy away from them because there commonly aren't smaller denominations.

I'm actually in the early planning stages for a custom cash set and AM considering getting plaques for the $100's ... the only thing is that I think they can be pretty expensive.

i've got a set of those ordered.

i've only seen those things in movies, never IRL, and i thought they were just kidding around when they pulled those huge things out and started betting with them.

you can't riffle them or do any other chip tricks with them - they're not chips.

easier to have same denoms in chips instead. and costs less. do they even make racks or storage cases for those things?

I understand what you are saying. You know the exact amount you have in chips before you start out. But here's the problem. Let's say one goes to a tournament and as people get knocked out they say "hey, let's start a cash game".

So, the chips and plaques are counted out in front of everyone and the exact amount is known. So, a few people buy chips and the game starts. More people get knocked out, more people buy into the cash game. This continues for a few hours. Some people cash out of the cash game and leave. The cash game continues for a while and then everyone decides to call it a night. So, everyone starts cashing out. Then you get to the last person and the bank is $40 short. Someone slipped a few $5 chips or a couple of $20 plaques into the game. It's might not even be the last guy to cash out. Someone could have slipped it into the game in the middle of the cash game and played loose with it figuring he/she would double up and cash out or just lose the rouge chip and go home leaving the rest of the players to deal with the cash out at the end of the night. A typical 2/5 cash game might have an average stack of $200-$500 per player. That's a lots of possible places to slip in 3 or 4 $25 chips or an extra $100 plaque.

So, even if everyone knows the exact amount in chips/plaques the game started with, it doesn't help much at the end of the night when everyone is cashing out and stray chips show up. If it's your set of chips you are probably the bank. What level of risk are you willing to take? That's the real question here. That's one reason I am interested in custom plaques.
