Used to play a split variant of this called Timbuk (no idea why). You get 4 cards in your hand, create a cross of down cards like the picture below

Code:
   2
2 3 2
   2
Bet, flip one of the 2 card stacks, . . . the 3 card stack in the center is flipped last and you now have 4 cards in your hand + 7 cards on the board either up/down or left/right to make your best hi card hand (rarely less then a boat) and your best timbuk. A timbuk is the most parts to a str8 flush. For example, 234s is beat by 456s which is beat by 2345s which is beat by 789Ts etc. A str8 flush can easily scoop the whole pot. Basically, not a lot of strategy other then playing connected cards but seems to keep a lot of people invovled.

Re: Omaha with 5 hole cards?

I love 5 card Omaha - We call it Big Mitt and many times play it with trips or better to win and a 7 low qualifier.

Re: Omaha with 5 hole cards?

We play a version of this but we play it must use 3 in the hand, 2 on the board. We call it Dan's game as he is the one that usually calls it. It get's kind of crazy both high and low as boats are totally hidden and figuring out if your low is good because it is harder to have 3 very low cards in the hand.

When you play it with a trips or better qualifier for high, what happens if at the river/showdown no one has trips? Just the guys still in at the river play the next game or is everyone dealt in?

We have played to two ways. If there is a showdown between two or more players with no qualifying winner then a new hand is delt between those players.

The other is if the players still in the pot at showdown can decide to chop the pot.
