Chips: 429 | | | Anyone played "Mafia"? My students gave presentations this week. One student gave a presentation on a game she plays with friends/ family, called "Mafia."
She was a little nervous, so her presentation wasn't as lucid as it could be. This is what I gather:
The "narrator" passes out an equal number of red and black cards. The red are the civilians, and the black are the mafia. The Ace of spaces is the godfather. The Jack of hearts is the "doctor." Some King is the "sherriff."
Only the narrator knows who is in the mafia. She directs the mafia to kill a player. Then she directs the doctor to heal a player. If the doctor heals the right player, that player remains in the game. If not, the player is out of the game. Then she directs the sherriff to arrest someone from the mafia. If he arrests a person with a black suit, that player is out of the game. If he arrests the godfather, the civilians win.
Anyone heard of this? |

Anyone heard of this? | That sounds like a very simplified version of the game. If you're looking for more info on the game, head over to mafiascum.net. That's a forum dedicated to playing the game, and they have a wiki with all the roles, etc....
This is a great game to play in an online forum........ If you're willing to spend a couple of months playing one game. |

but i've played it dozens of times with friends, lots of fun, always entertaining.
its not so much a card game, as a game using cards to denote the roles.
the rules are more than i care to type, but if you want a good explaination shoot me a PM and i'll give you my number and i'll tell you over the phone. not hard to learn at all, and again, a lot of fun. |

You can see games in progress to get a better idea of how it works in practice.

Anyone heard of this? | This is a great 'around the campfire' game that I play with my scouts. We actually play a game called 'Werewolves of Miller's Hollow', but the principal is the same (we played Mafia previous to finding this game). It's fun to see the boys team up against each other to try to find out the evil ones, and for the normally innocent ones to ardently defend themselves when they are the one slaughtering the innocent villagers during the night.
