Fun home game tourney structure for 4 people

No posts in here in a while...

Friday we only had 4 players (Me, 99%Evil,ARROWOOD and one other) and decided to do some different stuff.

$10 buy in ($40 in the pot) - T200 tournament - no rebuys - 10 minute blinds.
When it got to heads up - chipleader took $25 and 2nd took $15 and we started another tourney, partly so the first one out didn't have to sit too long.

We got 5 games in from 8:30 -12:45 - so a little over 4 hours.

1. NL Holdem (regular T200 blinds)
2. PL Omaha (regular T200 blinds)
3. NL Crazy Pineapple (regular T200 blinds)
4. NL Razz (same bet levels with a SB size ante, SB size bring in and BB complete the bet)
5. NL Omaha 8 hi/lo (regular T200 blinds)

Pretty fun night.

Re: Fun home game tourney structure for 4 people

Good post. Especially this time of year, we're often short players and our group prefers tourneys on the whole.

This is a good idea that does look like fun.

Thanks for posting it.

It was a good night...except for the "one other"

I was psyched to play Razz...and got booted first...you can't push some folks out, especially when the game is new.

Re: Fun home game tourney structure for 4 people

sounds like fun. we recently had an event similar. i had only 5 in a game due to my other regulars being out of town and sick. the 5 playing were pretty knowledgeable, so we played a NL tourney then switched to HORSE with 15 minute levels. I am working on another idea when we only have 6 or so players. Heads-up tournament double elimination style..

This sounds good. We could have used it last week when we only had 4 show up for a game. I wanted to play small tourneys, but the other guys thought they would take too long. This is a great compromise.

That's a great idea and sounds like a great time. Do any of you guys have any other fun games to play with a small crowd?

Re: Fun home game tourney structure for 4 people

I hope it's okay to resurrect an old thread?

Inspired by this thread we played NL Hold' Em, NL Pineapple (not crazy) and Limit Omaha Hi. We were 4-handed and used a T20k (100bb) structure with 15 min blinds. The top two players split the prize money in each game.

We had a great time, but the Limit Omaha took about twice as long (3 hours) as the other games, so we will probably keep to NL games if we do this again.

Edit: I realized later why the limit tournament went so slowly. We used the same blind structure and stack size for all the games. This means we started with 50 Big Bets in the limit tournament, which is *very* deep stacked. Had we started with 10k in chips (25 Big Bets) in the limit game, it would probably have been more similar to the 20k (100bb) NL games in length.
