Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

In my regular Friday night game, we often play Crazy Pineapple Hi-Lo 8 or better (we usually refer to it as "Crazy HiLo"). 50c/$1 NL

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

We've always played that the Crazy-Pineapple discard is after the flop is seen, but before the betting round. I'm quite intrigued by the alternatives to have the betting round first then discard or to discard in turn during the betting round.

I don't like the discard in turn - position is already important enough in this game. Discarding after the betting round seems to take away strategy...as stated above if lots of people are in hold for the flush/str8, if heads up, keep the pair.

Has anyone played this in Vegas? I know they have this at least in tournaments. I'd be curious what a 'real' game did.

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

We just added dealer's choice on Tuesday night, and sure enough pineapple (the sane version) came up, and it was a blast! We also played Indian Hold'em, but that's just crazy...

I'd say that it adds a bit of strategy and takes away quite a bit of psychology. i.e. if you KNOW that there are 8 people in the pot then keeping that flush draw is obviously correct. If you have to GUESS how many people will be in there's a lot of psychology involved.

In other words, I'm not disagreeing with you in principle, just in semantics. I would say the more information you have, the more strategy... the less information you have, the more psychology. When you discard definitely changes the game.

FWIW, I've always played it "discard after flop betting round". The only reason I'd want to do "discard as you bet/call" is so that all the drunks get the discard right
