Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

I too just played it for the first time Thursday night in the pick up game after my regular monthly game was over -- it was a blast! Good idea for making it a part of the monthly gig once in a while for a change.

Pineapple = Dealt 3 cards, round of betting, discard 1 card, then see the flop.
Crazy Pineapple = Dealt 3 cards, round of betting, see flop, round of betting, discard 1 card.

Also with both of these, you discard the 1 as you make your bet.

Pineapple discards after the PF betting but before the flop is shown while Crazy discards after the flop betting but before the turn is shown.

I believe this is the most common way to play it. There has been some debate as to whether you discard prior to the betting on that round or after the betting on that round. In theory, lots of betting might indicate which hand to play: the big draw (AJs) or the stronger hand (JJ). Either way, Pineapple always discards before the flop is run and crazy is after the flop is shown.

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

The way we played last night is that the discard happens after the betting round is complete. It would change the game completely if you had to discard either as you act or before the betting round.

I haven't looked very hard but I've never found a rule that explicitly discusses this aspect of the game.

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

OK cool... pineapple preflop, crazy post. gotit!

I've never played where you discard as you bet but I kinda like it... certainly makes position even more important.

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

Thanks for all the info. So the only debate remaining: The precise timing of the discard (before betting, after betting, or at individual's action). I guess that could be a house rule, as I haven't seen any definitive rule on this. "Robert's Rules" doesn't cover Pineapple... crazy or sane versions.

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

I love crazy pineapple, the only problem is remembering to discard BEFORE the turn. There's a lot of action that occurs with 3 cards in your hand, and forgetting does happen especially when switching games. CP is by far one of my top 3 favorite games(NLHE,CP,PLO)

Re: Crazy Pineapple - Last Night's Cash Game

Yeah, the only way we ever managed to do it consistently is when we have a special muck for them and someone (usually SB) is in charge of counting them down to make sure someone isn't accidentally going to the turn with 3. Did I mention we drink in this game?

That's what's intriguing to me about either:
1) Putting your bet and your discard in
2) Folding

No more three card showdowns where someone yells, "His hand is DEAD!"
