Razz about Razz
I'm getting ready to introduce Razz to my home game.
Any one have any thoughts or tips that may prove useful?
FYI.
Razz Rules:
Dealt out like seven card stud, but lowest hand wins.
A2345 is the nuts (straights and flushes don't count as high hands)

Re: Razz about Razz
My only question on Razz is how do pairs count? (I know they're bad, but what about when 2 folks have pairs as part of their hand (6,6,6,2,8,7,7 against 2,2,A,A,9,10,2) I can read a straight hand, you start at the highest card and work down to determine a winner, but when there are multiple hands with pairs, I'm a bit lost. Not sure who wins...
I know that 10,10,J,Q,K,A,K beats A,A,2,2,3,3,4
But who wins this hand? A,A,2,3,5,5,5 vs. A,A,2,3,3,3,5 or is this a tie?
I know multiple pair hands don't occur often, but I'd like to be able to make the proper call.
You know, I guess I could google razz rules....

Re: Razz about Razz
Lowest hand in the first case is a pair of 5's with a 3, 2 and A
Lowest hand in the second case is a pair of 3's with a 5, 2 and A
3's are lower than 5's, so the 3's win.
also:
"I know that 10,10,J,Q,K,A,K beats A,A,2,2,3,3,4"
Doesn't look like it to me.....
lowest hand for player 1 would be 10,10,j,q,k (10's)
lowest hand for player 2 would be 2,2,3,4,a (2's)
so the 2's win.
i think

Re: Razz about Razz
But couldn't you say they both have 5,3,2,A,A? With the aces being the low pair?

Re: Razz about Razz
hmmmmm, a pair of aces be low?
I knew I shouldn't have started this....LOL
You might be right
Edit: i think you are:
2. The lowest hand wins the pot. Aces are low, and straights and flushes have no effect on the low value of a hand. The best possible hand is 5-4-3-2-A.
Aces are always low it would appear.

A,A,2,3,3,3,5 would have a A,A,5,3,2
A,A,2,3,5,5,5 would have a A,A,5,3,2
So it would be a split pot.
That being said, both of these hand suck, and if you are betting or calling with them you should not be playing Razz.

Re: Razz about Razz
No I wouldn't call with these hands, but I'm curious how a pair of aces goes from being low to hi? I'm looking at multiple sites for an answer. I like playing razz and would be out of a pot with multiple pairs, but before bringing razz to our regular game, I want the rules down pat in my head.
Another for instance-
A,3,4,5,5,5,5 vs. 2,2,2,8,9,10,2. I'm reading that the pair determines the low so the hand with 2's would win...but I'm not sure. I don't want to be in a game and not know how to properly call a hand, regardless if a person should be in a hand or not.

I'm pretty damn sure that the 2's win in this case.

Re: Razz about Razz
I'm starting to figure this out.
The pair is your hi, then your other cards
for instance
5,5,K,10,9
beats
6,6,5,3,A
And it appears Aces are the lowest pair.
