Wow this forum is empty.........
I was just lookin for some good (poker-related) home games to add to our mix. Currently we have Challenge, 3-Card Guts, Baseball, Night Baseball, Beat the Dummy (gotta love that one), Kings and Littles, 4-Card Guts, and a stud game where you buy your own card from a selection of 3 (forgot what it's called). Anyone got some good games that are good from 4-8 people?
Any ideas submitted before 1PM PST WILL be used tonight!!

I did a Google search for poker game variations and found some pretty cool ones I'd never heard of...my personal favorite. BINGO! Not much skill, lots of luck.

OH yeah we do play Anaconda all the time, and we play follow the queen. Thanks for the others, though I will check those out for sure.
Any others? Do people actually use their chips to play with around here??

We play a couple Omaha variations that seem to attract alot of action. They are played H/L with a chip declare at the end. The first is trips Omaha, everyone gets 4 cards and can only use 2 to make the best five card hand, using one of the 5 card rows. Then there are 3 rows of cards put face down in the middle each of the 3 rows consists of a pile of 3 cards then (2) single card rows:

There is a betting round, then then you flip the first row (all 9 cards) betting round then the last 2 rows with a betting round in between each.
Another one we play is called Arnie (dont know if these guys made up this game or if it is referred to as that normally). Its another omaha type game, same deal everyone gets 4 and must use 2, the deal is 3 rows of 3 cards then 1 row of 2. The 3 card rows are turned with a betting round in between followed by the last row of 2. Players must use 2 from their hand, 2 from one of the rows of 3 (horizontally not vertically) then one from the last 2. We play this hi-lo with a chip declare, it lays out like this:

And one more for good measure.
This game is called Hi-Lo Buy a card, its a 7 card game, each player is dealt 2 cards face down then have the option to keep or pay to pass the card that is dealt face up. There is usually a progression for passing the cost goes up each round but is at the discretion of the dealer .25-.25-.50-$1 or .50-.50-$1-$1 are the norm. There are 4 rounds of up cards and the last card is dealt down. So the first player to the right of the dealer is offered a card face up, if he wants to pass it it costs a quarter to the pot, if passed the card is then offered to the next person, this continues until someone either keeps the card or it goes all the way around and is buried. Once the card is either kept or buried all the passers are given the next top card in the deck. So for instance lets say that the first person is offered the 7c as the first card and opts to pass it he puts a quarter in the pot and the next person is offered the 7c, if he keeps it the top card on the deck is then given to the person who passed and then the next card is offered to the third person in the rotation. The action rotates between rounds, so on the second go round the person two seats to the left of the dealer gets the first option on the next card.
BMWguy we play a game like you mentioned above with 3 cards up and you can buy one of them. We call it Walmart, the card furthest from the stack is .25, the second card is .50 and the card closest to the stack of cards is $1, and if you take a down card from the stack its free (but we have recently started taxing the free card progressively as well free,.25,.50,$1). First person gets the option of what card they want, if they take one of the up cards the two remaining are then slid to the end and the next up card is flipped from the top of the deck and is put in the $1 slot.

A good game we got from the internet that's proven to be a winner is 3-5-7
All players get 3 cards, 3's are wild. Guts style stand or drop.
If all drop, reante. If more than 1 player stands they compare hands (don't show anyone else) with loser matching pot and winner taking pot.
If only one player stands they get a leg/chit. When you get 3 chits (might do 2 instead of 3) you take the pot and the game ends.
Everyone gets 2 more cards (now you have 5), 5's are wild. Same guts stand/drop.
Everyone gets 2 more cards (now you have 7), 7's are wild. Same guts stand/drop.
Shuffle, deal 3 card hands, rinse, repeat. We also played $2 in - $2 out where it wasn't a pot matching game and instead you took a set amount from the pot and had to match a set amount.
Added rule - If a player ever gets a 3, 5, 7 in their hand of 3 they take the pot & the game is over.

Indian Poker
I'll tell ya -- as silly as it sounds, we play at least one game of Indian Poker per night. Not required, just force of habit; someone's always willing to call it at least once (though you don't want to do it a lot).
It's a really good exercise in reading your opponents (and there's a real thrill in getting someone to fold a King).
Sort of a palate-cleanser.

5 card draw
Hands still in play must beat the Frankenstien, which consists of the best 5 card hand made from those that were "drawn" away. If players cannot beat the Frankenstien hand, all money bet into the pot stays there and another hand resumes until a player can win.
Crazy....crazy big pots sometimes. Alright most of the time.

I've played a variation of this that's similar without the wild cards options (bad, evil things). Also, you can sort of check/call. Anyone that dropped out (checked) prior to someone declaring they are in (bet) gets the option to redeclare in (call). As soon as someone declares in, you either have to go in (call) or drop out (fold). There isn't any additional betting over the initial ante.
1. Ante.
2. Get dealt 3 cards, declare whether you are in or out. If 2 or more are in, best 3 card hand wins (no flushes or str8s) and gets a chip.
4. Get dealt 2 more cards, declare whether you are in or out. If 2 or more are in, best low hand wins (flushes and str8s don't hurt) and gets a chip.
5. Get deal 2 more cards, declare whether you are in or out. If 2 or more are in, best 5 card high hand wins and gets a chip.
6. Start over with 3 cards till someone wins 3 hands.
