These days we only play casino poker games - I have not played 727 in probably 5 years.
Whatever your ante structure you use for the game works - blinds are ok I guess - we either played dealer antes or everyone antes. The dealer would specify inside beats outside or what ever - inside beats outside - 26.5 beats 27.5 and 7.5 beats 6.5. THe best strategy is bluff that you have the best low hand or have the best low hand and bet the $#%! out it while everyone else goes high - we played 3 passes and you had to stay with what you have. |

You are basically playing a split pot game for the person closest to 7 without going over and the closest to 27 splitting. All number cards are worth their value, A's are 1 or 11 and paint is worth a half point. Everyone antes and gets two cards, 1 face up and 1 face down. Then everyone gets the option to take a card or stick starting from the left of the dealer (all cards but the first down card are dealt face up). Betting then starts left of the dealer. After that betting round everyone again gets the chance to pick a card (starting 2 to the left of the dealer) and then a round of betting. Then pull a card (3 to the left of the dealer) and a round of betting. Etc. The game ends when no one pulls a card in the round and hands are turned up, cards speak. 26.5 beats 27.5; 26 beats 28, etc. AA5 or AA32 or AAx plays both high and low and can scoop the pot.
Variations:
first to pull cards does not rotate (HUGE dealer advantage, on top of the huge dealer advantage inherently part of the game)
first to bet rotates (not sure what it does to the game, but somehow it stuck in our game)
playing low does not have to be 7 or under (8 can play for low) (allows bluffing low)
We play this game with a $1 limit (vs our normal $1 BB NL) and somehow the pots still end up being like $40-$60+ on a good game.
Just to add the reason this game is so annoying is you almost always have 1-2 players tops going for low and just milking the pot for whatever they can get. Granted I play where it's 7 or under and I'm guessing it would be more competitive for low if it was just closest to 7 but still it's like flipping a coin for a winning hand at the start of the game and then just trying to milk it for whatever you can get.

We used to have Deuce-7 on the books but no one ever called it so it's gone. Dealer calls the game then when the deck has done one circuit of that game it skips the caller and starts with the person on his left. Keeps the blinds right. |

Meridian that's how we do the dealers choice also. But of course we allow any game the dealer wants (except when everyone vetos, but that normally only happens when one guy starts with "lets play this game I made up...") |
