Chips: 1,142 | | | questions about ceramic I am planning on getting a set of ceramic chips from HPC.com. For those who have owned chipcos for along time. Please tell me how long, if ever, do you start noticing wear. Ive been to several casinos in Denver, and saw some chipco chips that have shown tremendous wear. We play about 2 nights a week and plan on using my PC chips on Friday and HPC on Saturday. Also, a lot of chipco chips tend to have a white border on the graphic. Is this necessary? |

Chips: 1,700 | | | All ChipCos have the white ring, you'll need to account for that in any design.
I don't use ChipCos in my regular game, but I've had a bunch lying around for years. I had a set in a drawer in my office and have just opening and closing it they started to wear after 3-4 years, not from being played at all. On the other hand one of my regulars has had a set for 7 years that looks near mint, though to be fair he doesn't use it that often. I'd be willing to bet you'd be ok for quite a while with the limited abuse they'd get in the home game environment.

Chips: 62 | | | I have a set that have been used every week for about 10 months and they still look brand new. I don't think you will see the kind of wear that casino Chipco's get in a lifetime of home use. |

Chips: 12,759 | | | I think the difference between wear and no wear on home ceramic chips is a function of how often the same chips get shuffled. Lots of riffling on the same chips = lots of visible wear. Little or infrequent riffling on the same chips = little to no visible wear. It is my understanding that Chipco puts the white ring on their chips to minimize visible wear or at least make it less noticeable by blending it in.

They currently show ZERO wear. |

Chips: 1,142 | | | thanks all for your help.
i take this topic very seriously. If i am going to order a huge set that is going to cost me an arm and a leg (well worth it), the chips must last for at least 15 years.
we do shuffle alot at our home games, and when i play on the internet but considering that they will only be used once a week i hope this will be ok.
Any more info would greatly be appreciated |

Chips: 12,759 | | If you are ordering a big set, just don't riffle the same 10-20 chips all the time. Either that or set aside a specific stack just for shuffling. That way you can choose to either spread the wear amoung all of your chips and minimize its effects or put the heaviest wear on one specific group of chips, thereby sparing the visual appeal of all of your playing chips.
Yet another option would be not to worry about it either way and just live and let live.

Chips: 303 | | | After several months of shuffling a sample set of Chipco Classics, I'm just starting to see some face wear along the edge. The white ring is a bit wider in spots, though I have to look closely to see it. They don't seem to be wearing uniformly. I'm sure my method and technique have something to do with this. And I'm also confident this could be considered accelerated wear. Normally, chips wouldn't see this much abuse in years.

Chips: 18,645 | | | Well, Chipcos will wear. They'll never look any better than when you bought them.
The question is how fast they will wear, whether you will notice it, and whether this will bother you.
Good clay chips will get slightly worn edges (actually a good thing BTW) but will stay great-looking if they get cleaned when needed.
But I've been shuffling some home Chipcos for months with no noticeable wear.
If you really have to have perfect looking chips, then maybe Chipcos are not the best fit for you. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
