Adobe Photoshop help please! (need to create my labels)

OK,

I just got a trial version of Photoshop 9.
I've used it before, what I need to know is how large should I make the files?

I have the images I want to use, I want to create custom lettering that will "arc" over the top of the chip, any advise on doing this would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Re: Adobe Photoshop help please! (need to create my labels)

I guess that depends on how you want to output it. If you're going to print them full bleed on a 1" label, you'll want to make it at least an inch in size. And the density would depend upon what your printer can do.
Generally for a full bleed label as I would do from a portion of a photograph, I would create the label at 600 DPI and choose an image that is at least 700 pixels square. To allow for bleed and printer misalignment (and you will get misaligned prints along with printer creep) make the over all size of the image 1.1 to 1.125 in overall size though you should plan on a print area of 1 inch, so focus on the 1 inch area that you are hoping to get printed on the sticker. Keep any arc'd text within a 7/8" area (.875) to allow for misalignments (remember this is a printer, not a printing press). You can arc text in PhotoShop using the elliptical shapes. Read the Help portion on printing to a path, then read it again (it takes a couple of reads to understand it.) For better printing quality, save the files in uncompressed TIFF format rather than JPEG. This could result in some huge files (I've had them as big as 4-5 MB for 1 inch label if they're left unflattened).

I am no Photoshop expert but whatever you are doing you should get the guys on the other end work a little.

A friend of mine has just ordered some ASMs and (just like me) he has a finished artwork for them. But it didnt save him the artwork fee. I was thinking about a HPC.com order but I wont as I dont agree with their artwork fee even if it is 90% done (but that´s just me).

If you still wanna do some work on yourself try a vector software such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel.

I did not try to arc the text in photoshop, the version I had did not have an easy option.

Good luck!

So much for believing the Adobe notes. I went from 5 to 8 and one of the features they claimed to be new was the ability to fit text to path. Oh well ...

Adobe Photoshop 8 = Photoshop CS, correct? If so, I know for a fact you can fit text to a path. I just used it to create my label designs.
