My custom chip design

Woo, first post!

I'm going to try to design this myself but after seeing the many cool designs on this forum and the great feedback from you nuts with 1000s of chips I'd appreciate any comments. The basics are that I want:

Standard Vegas colors (red, green, black, purple, yellow)
Either ASM or Nexgen (I'm leaning circle/square, but also like the roman)
Edgespots are a must but I prefer muted colors to the dayglo

The inlay theme is centered around the Chinese character Fu which means Luck. Linkie
The cool part about this character is that it is the only Chinese character that is sometimes written upside-down. During the lunar new year the character is written upside-down and hung from doors & on walls. When it is upside-down it has the meaning of "luck is coming to you". When I found that out I thought it was way too cool and would make for a great chip idea.

My main problem now is trying to decide if I want
Words on the chip (good luck, luck is coming to you),
A made up casino name (I'm leaning no on this one),
Nice chips (ASM) or cheapos (Negen w/labels),
A solid white inlay with the logo or something that blends into the chip,
Denominations (I'm leaning no on this one)

The next step is to get SOMETHING done with my poor photoshop skills, but what do you think of the overall idea of a 'Luck' chip with a classy style/colors/inlay?

Definitely go with the ASM chips. There's just no comparison between real clay and composites. You'll porbably want to upgrade after a little while anyway, so might as well start off with clay.

I like the character, I think it would look cool on a chip. I'd probably go with a white background and maybe to that character in the same color as the chip body.

Design idea around the character is a great idea, were you going to change the color of the character to match the color of the chip? Or would it be opposite so that the character stands out a great deal??

Maybe you could do the luck words in a couple of different languages? A different one for each color along with the word "Luck."

Just some thoughts for you!

Great idea with the Chinese character.

I agree a casino name wouldn't fit very well to that theme.

Maybe you could have the character encircled with the inscription "GOOD LUCK - LUCK IS COMING TO YOU" so "GOOD LUCK" is reading the right way when the Fu character is seen normally, and "LUCK IS COMING TO YOU" when the Fu character is seen upside down.

If you have inscriptions it will be difficult to also fit denominations. Otherwise you can consider denominations and then maybe both with Arabic (normal) and Chinese numerals.

TT

I like the use of almost any type of Kanji character in a chip design. I like the character you've chosen. Your sample art looks great with the drop shadow under the character.

I think this character will work well on a gambling chip. It's like using a shamrock or horseshoe -- very appropriate.

I think the chips would look clean with no denominations, but I'd bet you could get nice looking art even with denominations.

Good luck with this. (Or should I say "Good Fu!"?)

This was actually my original idea but I need to design something in photoshop to see if it would be too crowded with the words. I envision them arcing along the top of the chip inlay.

I'd really like your opinions about making the center inlays all white vs. colored to match the chips, making the character gold (it's often a gold character written on red during the lunar new year), or varying the character color on each chip. I guess I need to get something going with photoshop and post it back here for comments. Thanks for the feedback!

After everyone has knocked a few back at the home game, I would hear a lot of -- "What does this symbol mean again?"

That's okay, the 8x10" paper-cutting of Fu & other characters of luck and the framed photograph of guys smoking & gambling in China will remind them. The hard part will be when I forget what it means after knocking back quite a few.
