Chips: 21 | | | Another Chips Needed Question.... Hey gang, sorry for the long post, but I am thinking of increasing my tournament to a T2000 event with the following blinds schedule (we already play long games and prefer a mellow schedule). How many chips of each color should I get for a 14-16 person game? I'm thinking 5 colors (red/green/black/lavender/yellow) should cover the needed denominations. We will occassionally allow one rebuy during the first 4 levels, but usually run freeze-out events. Could I just get away with doubling the recommended chip amounts needed for a T1000 event as mentioned at homepokertoruney.com or does the 14-16 person 2 table format require more chips than that?
T2000
20 Minute Levels
10-20
15-30
20-40
Color Down $5 Checks
25-50
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
Color Down $25 Checks
200-400
300-600
400-800
500-1000
600-1200
800-1600
1000-2000
1200-2400
1500-3000
2000-4000
2500-5000
3000-6000
I'm currently running a T150 event with smaller blinds. I bought a 1000 piece composite chipset back before I realized there were standard chip colors (duh ops: ) and that my current set is geared towards smaller stakes games (white/red/blue being primary colors).
Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks |

Chips: 7,798 | | | I'd strongly suggest just four colors, and starting blinds at 25-25, then go to 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, etc.
The number of chips you need depends on how many chips you want people to start off with. For example, if you want to start with 20 green/15 black, then you need 320 green chips, and 240-320 black chips (depending on if you want enough blacks to color up all greens, or if you'll use purples to cover some of the coloring up).
Or you could start with 12/12/1, which allows for only 200 green and black chips for 16 people. Foxwoods T3000 satellite tournaments will start with 4/9/4, but that's too few chips for a home game for most people.
If you look in the "How many Pharaoh's" thread, you'll find an excellent spreadsheet you can use to calculate all the chips you need.
EDIT: BTW, I don't think this should be in the custom chips forum. |

So T2000 means each person starts with $2000 worth of chips. Since the $ are only funny-money for this tournament (the buy-in could be any amount of money), "T" is probably a better description.

On the first round, it takes 4 chips ($5 red) to post or call the BB. Contrast that to a T1000 with starting blinds of 5/10 --- you'd only need 1/2 as many red chips.
Or better yet, just bump it to T2500 with starting blinds of 25/25. Don't buy reds at all. Make the green ($25) chip your small chip. It only takes 1 chip to post/call the blinds.
For T1000 , just divide your scheduled blinds by 2. The game would play exactly the same as your proposed game, but you'd need fewer red chips (or you'd be making change less).

Chips: 21 | | Good points all around.
It does make sense to just start at T2500 or 3000 and start at something like 25-25 and work up from there. Would need less chips than the schedule I posted.
Thanks for the help! |

Chips: 1,845 | | | When my Pharaohs come (are they here yet?) my game will be going to T2500 for the reasons posted here, no reds required. However, if you really want to keep the T2000 game, with or without reds, you can almost certainly do without the yellows also.
I currently play a T1500 and sometimes we have up to 20 or more buy-ins after all the rebuys. I rarely pull out the yellows and even when I do, there's no real need to do it. Everyone just has some nice large stacks of purple toward the end. If you do without reds and yellows, you should easily be able to get tons of green, black, and purple to do whatever you want. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
