Latest Revision (Checkmate Chips)

Patrick just sent me the latest version of my chips. I still need to find a decent font for "Checkmate's" and the icons around the border should be colorized so they will have good contrast but other than that...

There are some more proofs in this series coming in the next day or two with changes to the center graphic.

Comments?

I'd like to see what the red, green, and purple look like with white stroke on the piece icons around the outside of the chips. They may look slightly better.

What happened to the edgespot text? I'd have liked to see eight edgespots, alternating denomination and piece icon.

these look sweet. i like how the denoms overlap the outer ring. i think there's too much going on on the edgespots. tone those suckers down.

i like the ranks on the edges, that looks really nice.

it's kinda weird, though, just saying checkmate's. almost looks like the possessive is a typo.

I really like the edge spots. They are busy and untraditional, but like we've said before, you might as well use the fact that these are ceramic chips to your advantage. I'm dying to see what a stack of these look like.

I agree. Maybe Checkmate Club or Club Checkmate?

Yeah, those edgespots are great! This is coming along rather nicely. I also like the denominations overlapping the outer rim.

As metioned earlier, I think you could use something on the non-denom chip. Right now I can't come up with anything besides a clock though.

I also agree that it would be better if it said something more than Checkmate's. Checkmate Club works.

looking great!!!! I think the only problem, in my honest opinion, is that the stacks of the whites and blacks will look too similar. The edge spots dont have enough difference in color. Myabe you want to look into making the black edge spots darker. Just an idea...

Patrick has sent me a bunch of options for the central graphic. Here's the pic (also colorized the denom):

Surprizingly (for me), I'm leaning toward the 3rd option (the pic of my two pieces over the rest of the chip. For some reason I just like it better than the raster art. The last one is the graphic after being filtered. I think I actually prefer the "real thing" to a doctored version.

Thoughts?

Oh, as far as the name, I kinda see the point about the 's looking weird. Checkmate Club would probably work. I still need a good font for it, though. I think the rest of the chip is about done.

To me, option 2. I just don't like the actual photos as well.

I like the first one and the third one after that. The picture in the third one looks to big. Maybe if it was a little smaller it would look better.
