Custom Chip help: Maltese Cross Design (4-19 UPDATE)

I'm in the process of having my 2nd custom chips done from homepokerchips.com. My first set (1300 chips) are all non-denoms, and are geared for my monthly tournaments (32-36 players.)

This order is for my ring-games. I wanted something vastly different from my original order. After debating over what I wanted, I decided to go with a Maltese Cross/West Coast Choppers Styled design.

Since I used traditional casino colors with my tournament chips (blue, red, green, black, purple, gold) I decided to go with a brighter, more extreme color theme.

Also, I want a rather simple design, with solid colored chips that are easy to differentiate.

Patrick has given me several options to start with. A couple of his options include other color combos instead of the ones I started with.

Here are the colors I want:

White ($1)
Hot Pink ($5)
Bright Green ($25)
Black ($100)

All the initial artwork has been done in bright yellow.

I'd like some suggestions for improvements on this theme.

**How can I 'dress up' the cross design? (i.e. bolder, wider, etc.)

**Should I vary the text-size to fit the cross pattern?

**What about different color combos for the artwork (i.e. White/Bright Blue, Hot Pink/Black or Blue, Bright Green/Yellow, Black/Hot Pink)

**Also considering changing the Green chip to Bright Yellow, with Bright green or Black artwork.

Obviously, I can go in a million directions......I value any input you all can offer. Please offer any critique/advice you can!

Thanks!

GW

Thanks Tom......I know what you mean about the #1 on the chip. That's the 1 that comes with the font style I chose.....I didn't realize it would be different until I got the proof back.

GW,

Very interesting design you have there. I do have a few comments:

I think your font is going to be too hard to read unless you can make it larger.

If the cross's interior were given a color (say black), then the text on the inside will be easier to read and you wouldn't have to change colors (if that's a concern). I wouldn't do it if it were my but it's an option.

To dress up the chip, perhaps you could add a gradient to the exterior of the cross to add a little dimension to the chip (see Club DiCarlo custom chips in another thread for the effect)

I like the edgespots if they will come out clearly in the final product. I was going to put denoms on my edgespots but decided against it as the font was going to be too small. If you did customs before you may be able to judge this for yourself.

As for colors of chips, do whatever makes you happy. I'm kinda sick of all the vs debates that rage here.

Keep us posted. Those are going to be sweet.

I have to agree with VA it's a very nice start, but it need something, since you are only having four chips, instead of just a spade have you thought about using all four suits? I think the color inside the cross would help break it up a little. Keep it going man, these will be nice when you get done.

Good design idea, but I think the text needs work.

What about Geoff's horizontally across the center with the "o" in the center. (the capital 'G' could be made larger to compnsate for the extra letter in "ff's" vs "Ge")

The denom could be put in the upper limb of the cross and "poker room" could be put horizontally over the bottom limb of the cross, or in a semi-circle around the bottom.

This would make the "Geoff's" much easier to read. If you put "poker room" around the bottom, you could put a heart, spade, etc in the lower limb of the cross.

Also, on the 100 dollar chip, I would use the "circle-cross" like in "geoff's" and "poker room" for the zeros.

Yeah, that font is gonna be really hard to read.... I like the basic design theme though.... I think the cross in the O's really clutters things up...

Thanks for the input so far guys....

I'm kind of bummed to hear the comments about the font, since I really wanted it, but maybe I'll have to change it to get the look I'm wanting.

I also like the idea of adding some depth to the chip. I just want to be careful when adding a gradient or deeper color to the chips since my tournament chips have gradient center, and it causes a little dullness that makes it a little difficult to tell the differences in chips (i.e. purple and black get mixed up, or green and blue chips look too similar.)

I'm trying to avoid that problem here........Maybe I can add some texture or pattern either behind the cross or within the cross.

What do you guys think of this type of lettering:

Maybe I could alter the chip layout to mimic these Palms chips with my lettering and denom:

I tried to post my links as pics for you hunter......can't seem to make it work. Anyone?

Thanks again guys......
