Math for aligned edges?

So how do you find out how long to make the edge spots on the edges in relation to the design on the faces of chips to make them lined up? I once was good at math in high school but I don't even know what that function would be called.
Thanks.
Gabe

Re: Math for aligned edges?

I think I figured out a solution.
Luckily, at the edge, my design that needs to align ends up being 36 degrees wide along the edge based on the center of the chip, which is 10% of the circumference. I space that evenly, and the chip color goes in between if there are 4 spots. SO: 15% chip color, 10% spot color, 15% chip color, 10% spot color,15% chip color, 10% spot color,15% chip color, 10% spot color. Adds up to 100% which = 360 degrees.

Re: Math for aligned edges?

Hmmm,

I took your design you posted in the chipdesign.eu chipcontest topic, as I guess it's that design you work on at the moment.

Using your 72 dpi picture of the big red chip I tried out my method of using a slightly transparent copy layer of the chip and laying angular shades on it to define where the position of the edges are.

I came up with 10,4 % for one pink edgespot.
That makes 14,6 % for the chip-color.

My solution will be:

Spots: 13 mm

Chip-Color: 18,25 mm

It will be best if you print out a frontside and an edge and try out by yourself on an old chip if you have one to spare. You'll at least see if you're quite near the desired result.

Cheers,
Pils

Re: Math for aligned edges?

if you send me an email I can send you information on this- it has to do with arc angle- for ceramics the mathematics end is mathematically precise and correct- in real life it needs to be TWEAKED a bit due to the bleed area which must be mathematically corrected for.

Then, theres a human factor- which is why 2mm variation should be expected--

Then, there's expansion and contraction

My point: you can do the math, design a chip using software and it will look DEAD ON as it should- when you make the chip- it dont always come out that way

Re: Math for aligned edges?

Cool, I think I'll keep my designs simple with whole numbers thinking percentage of the arc in mind in relation to 360 degrees. I spent too much time trying to figure out the math for the radian, i know 180/pi, but I think it'll be allright.
