Chips: 225 | | | Question for those who have a set or have handled PI Wallson's - Input Please! Alright, so I'm trying to decide between getting:
1. Custom set of BCC edge spotted chips (lots of money)
2. Custom set of Solid PI Wallson's (great price)
3. The PI GB of the Edge Spotted Wallson's (even better price)
I'm waiting on a sample set of them, so please don't tell me to get samples!!!
What I want is input from those of you who have handled the PI Wallson's as well as BCC's, ASM's, & Paulson's (home or casino).
Are the Wallson's a great clay chip comparably?
Can you tell that they are not a higher quality clay chip like BCC's, ASM's, or Paulson's?
Are they worth the money or would it be better for me to just go for the BCC customs even though it would be close to a $1 difference per chip at minimum?
Obviously, I will have a better idea when I receive my samples, but I wanted educated input from the rest of the community on these as well, because this could be a big investment for me!
Thanks!

Chips: 234 | | | Re: Question for those who have a set or have handled PI Wallson's I too spent a lot of time in the build up to the PI group buy. Originally I was thinking of using these are fill-in chips while I work on custom BCCs. For 30 cents they are a great value given the feel but I don't think they compare to BCCs. My custom ASMs have a different feel all together so I'm leaving this out of my opinion. Having played with custom hotstamed T-molds, the High Rollers, Pharoahs and other "high end" clay chips I've decided not only because of the custom options the differences were great enough in my opinion to pay up for the more traditional clay chips. I'm not one of those who wants a half dozen sets of poker chips so I don't want to sink $500 on a set of these and have to work on selling them to recover some costs when I don't have a use for them when my customs are done. |

The other thing that is frustrating is hearing how long it takes to get a set, and how many problems people have had with BCC...do I want to pay so much more and have to deal with all of that???
This is going to be a lot harder of a decision than I thought! |

First thoughts...they look like nice chips and feel pretty good. Very soft, and have a good sound. They stack great and shuffle great as well. Not slippery, which is great. The only thing right off the bat that I notice is the solid blue chip is noticeably a different size (diameter) than the rest of the solids and some of the others (solid & edge spotted) have diameter variations that you can feel in a stack.
Let me through some oil on them... |

First off I think they are great chips for the price ('specially the GB) Excellent for the weekly game 'cause they are tuff and affordable. They feel kinda like used clays, a little slick, but not so much that it effects stacking (I have a total of 18 chips so take that with a grain of salt)
The colors are not as vibrant as I'd like 'em to be but they're not awful (unless you're tired of the Paulson colors).
In regards to Labels: I have a set with Hogwild's labels and with PI's labels. they are both superb, But they are different. Hogwild's are glossy, flat and less thick. and PI's are textured and look sort of like they have a hard plastic coating. It's hard to describe but I like the Pi's a lil bit better.
Now IMO, I don't think anything compares to clay chips, but If money is an issue. then go with the Wallsons.

What I'm entertaining is doing a set of these as an alternate to my faux's. I have a monthly game that is for the guys and people tend to not take the best care of the chips (dropping them on the floor, spilling beer on them, etc.). I use my faux's for this game right now, but thought it would be nice to have an inlayed edge spotted set to use every once in a while as well. For the price, I wouldn't worry as much about the care of them as I would with custom BCC's (of course I would still worry about it though!). |

Chips: 663 | | | Re: Question for those who have a set or have handled PI Wallson's - Input Please! I have a sample of ten of the PI-Calys at home. IMHO they are definitely worth the money, esp. in the GB. They are very nice Chips. But on the other Hand, they are not as nice as BCC´s or Paulsons, regarding their feel and sound. (Due to personal preference i won´t include ASM into this) Also i am a little bored of the colors. For me, the BCC Chips are the optimum in Feel and sound. I love the C&S mold (as i have stated in lots of other threads) and since 2 weeks i am shuffling flame-mold hotstamps that also feel really good (even better from day to day).
Anyways i will order a set from the PI GB to have some chips that i can take to other places without having to worry about them.
I already have a tournament-set of paulsons and i am awaiting a cashset of the proteges. But in the long run i am planning on a BCC custom set with giant inlays.
But the art-fees are really expensive, so i will have to economize a long time or find some people who also like my idea and want to do a GB to part the art-fees. Until now i have given up my plan to gather a set of different casino-paulsons in favor of getting the BCC customs.
Long story short:
If you have played with those high-end Chips like BCC, PaulSon and ASM then your hunger for a BCC custom set won´t (at least thats true in my personal case) be satisfied.
Also you can tell a difference in quality between the PI's and the high-end Chips.
But that mostly due to their Labels, that are just labels. (but the best ones i have seen. They are so good that i am seriously planning to label my PaulSons with them)
But you and also some people who are not too much into this chip disease will definitely notice a difference in quality because you feel that they dont have inlays that are a "part" of the chip. |

Plus, my wife is actually pusing me to get a nice full (1000+) set of customs via BCC. How can I pass customs up if the support is there? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
