I would like to dye a large set of fauxs (500/500/100/25) recreating the three colors from jello-broom's hot-stamped Golden Stardust TR Kings. Orange, Dark Brown, Light Turquoise. Here is the thread:http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/custom...-tr-kings.html
What rit dye combos would you faux-dye experts recommend? Dark Brown seems obvious but I'm not sure about the others.
Also I need to select a fourth color . I was thinking maybe light green/dark green half-pie, or a mauve/fuscia half-pie. Or Gold/Black pie, or maybe just Grey.
the sunshing orange works great. Haven't tried the tangerine, but the sunshine is really nice and was the most consistent of all my colors.
The teal might be a little dark, so you'll have to try less dye, which I think makes it harder to get good consistency. I tried many things to get very light blue and it was really tough. There is an aquamarine liquid that is hard to find that is probably good.
i don't think the dark brown will work, but would love to hear other's experiences. I tried dark brown, not good at all, looked dark greay with a brown tint. Tried cocoa brown and didn't like that either, inconsistent and almost a muddy yellow tint. I mixed cocoa brown and sunshine orange and liked it the best, but not enough. Am going to try another mix with more orange this weekend.
If you really care about getting a specific color here is my suggestion: experiment with only 10 chips at a time. You can bleach the ones you experimented with and didn't like and make them brown in the end.
The light color here is dark brown for ~2 minutes per 25 (then re-dyed in dark brown for ~15 minutes for the darker brown):
Here are those TRKs for a reference:
This is sunshine orange for ~1 minute and 45 seconds per 25:
This one (although it is not close but might serve as a reference) is light blue for ~1 minute and 45 seconds per 20. I would try some combination of light blue and teal with a very small amount of dye and dye for as long as it takes:
