Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

Back story:

So i've got an order in for my custom ASM chips for tournaments, ranging from 25-5000 denominations. I ordered 100 of each denomination (except for the 1k and 5k 44mm chips) to make sure i love them before buying a bunch more. I'm almost certain I will...

Question:

I would like to eventually add a 1 and 5 chip to the set and have been pondering my options. I think it would be pretty awesome to make those two denominations ceramics for a couple reasons. First off, it would allow me to unload other clay AND ceramic sets I own (i know, i know, but i'm trying to scale down.) More importantly, I think it might be cool to further differentiate the lower denoms and add some larger artwork to the mix. I'm curious whether anyone here has done this and what thoughts they might have.

Thanks,

~Wiz

Re: Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

I wouldn't like it. I'm not a big fan of ceramics in general but I still don't think it would feel good.

If you want the lower denoms contrast from the rest, go for BCC giant inlays (for the larger grafics) or go for hotstamps.

Re: Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

Maybe use ASM hourglass solids for your lower denoms -- you can put bigger inlays in those with larger artwork, but the solid edges will look different from the big denoms when they're stacked on the table...and contrast the colors from the rest of the set (either pick a couple of neutral or very bright colors for the lower denoms -- whatever is opposite of the other colors in your set.)

Re: Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

I don't know what to recommend as an alternative (other than just getting more ASM's!), but I know I wouldn't like it at all. Just my opinion though.

Re: Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

I agree with the others that mixing ceramic and clay in the same set isn't a good idea. I have used mixed sets of clays (T-molds and Starburst TH&C) and it worked well. I would say get different ASM's if you like the ones you ordered once you receive them

Re: Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

I'm not fond of it either, but the Venetian did have all clays except for their highest denom (5k?) chip at last years Sin City Showdown ME tournament.

Re: Custom set with Clay and Ceramic?

This is sort of on the topic...

Would anybody mix Bud Jones chips with Paulsons? Perhaps use a bunch of Caesars At Sea $5 as a lowest denom with some Paulson 25s and 100s?

Just wondered if anyone would do this at home, or has ever seen a casino mix BJs with Paulsons at the tables.
