Hello, my name is Jim and I'm a poker chip addict!! Since finding this site a few weeks ago I have decided that my goal is to single handedly improve the US economy by purchasing custom chips!! Ok..enough babbling...now for my question.

I'm wanting a custom set to use once a year when my family gets together for Christmas. Any advice/suggestions on the following would be greatly appreciated.

1. What would be the minimum number of chips I would need? We only play for bragging rights and usually have 5-6 players, but could possibly have up to 10. I was thinking 300, but would like other input.

2. Which custom chips would be most cost effective for this type of set? I've been leaning towards the solid color, hot stamped ASMs, but would like to hear other opinions. I would like stay in the $200-$250 price range if possible.

That sounds reasonable. Another option might be hot-stamped T-mold solids:

They come in some great colours, and the stock "Tournament - No Cash Value" hot-stamps are pretty nice.

Stick with ChipTalk's golden rule: Get samples first!

hey beyondtilt...you are definitely right on the once a year comment....it is sad that i will use this set so little however, i am working on a pirate themed set for 'regular use' aaarrrrgggg
