Chips: 271 | | | ASM Molds...Which is your favorite and which can't you stand? So, having just completed my second GB for Rounders replicas through ASM, and deciding between molds, it got me thinking...What are people's favorite ASM molds and why and which molds to people not like and why?
Vote in the poll and then please explain your reasoning...I really like the HHR & Roman mold...only thing that worries me about the Roman mold is spinner and the fact that the edges will wear down faster than the center causing spinners after not much wear due to the design. (I don't have any experience here, just a thought because of less recess in the design compared to the HHR mold).
So what do and don't you like? |

I have a set with the Roman mold which I like a lot for the simplicity and class it projects. The one very small negative is the feel; little more slick than I had expected. Haven't had a major problem with spinners as my stacks don't really get that high.
I just recently ordered another set, this one with the A. I chose that this time because for this set I definitely wanted something with a deeper cut and better feel. I also wanted something closer to the edge of the chip. Just a personal thing; it's tough to choose.
Mold choice, outside of just personal preference, really can be impacted by what else may be customizing the chip, i.e. inlay theme and size, hotstamping, labels, etc. Keeping in mind that I respect everyone's opinions as custom chips are extremely personal, here are my brief and humble thoughts on some of the other choices. HH mold - great feel, works best imo with a western type theme (I also have a set of Emerald Princess casino chips,{ thanks Harlequin!!} which used that one, so it was never really in the running - I really do have a sickness ). Hourglass - cool concept but too "busy" for my taste. The H mold is awesome as it harkins back to some old casino designs. I just like having the mold closer to the chip edge. Circle mold is just a little too simple for me.
So there you go, my 2c, fwiw.

Yeah, I didn't put them in purposely because they aren't in production right now... |

I've seen chips on all molds that I like and dislike. My top 3 (in no particular order) favorites are HHR, A mold, and H mold. My least favorites are Circle Square and Roman.

I think it's ok, and some of the recent customs on this mold have been amazing. But they remind me just too much of the cheapo super diamonds, which have been the house set at a club I go to, as well as the old standby in my basement and the "car trunk set." I don't hate super diamonds, either, but if I'm going ASM's, I want a cooler mold. I think the horsehead is amazing, to me it's like the ASM brand trademark. Just one guy's opinion. |

Chips: 1,546 | | | Re: ASM Molds...Which is your favorite and which can't you stand? Matching mold selection to the inlay can be crucial in my opinion. Certain molds detract from an inlay and certain molds make an inlay stand out even more.
Take these for example:
The Roman mold just screams class (classiest mold out there in my opinion). Some of the others look good, some really clash with the hotstamp.
The LSR chips on the HHR mold are another example. I don't believe they would look near as good on other molds (A Mold was discussed because of the 44mm aspect):
Not personally a big fan of the Hourglass or the FDL, but like the others a lot. |

Plus, the horsehead and the H-mold are on some really old, really cool (and oftentimes really expensive) collectible chips. It's kinda neat to have a custom set with a mold that was used to make some of the early chips that started it all decades ago.
That being said, the guide to illegal chips has a ton of circle & square chips in it from decades past.
Still, HHR is my all-time favorite. |

Chips: 2,970 | | | Re: ASM Molds...Which is your favorite and which can't you stand? My favourite is probably the HHR. I also really like the Roman, FDL, and Hour Glass. I'm relatively indifferent about the H-mold (athough it's growing on me) and Cirlce-Square. My least favourites are the Cards'n-Dice and A-mold. The Nevada mold is OK (classic), and I need to get some "no mold" (aka "crest & seal") samples before I can decide on them.
I'd love to see the Elephant & Crown mold become available; don't know if JimB/ASM owns that one or not. Imagine a "safari" theme (maybe "Kings of Beasts" or something)... *daydreaming* |

The only one I don't care for is the circle square mold.
I'm not a fan of inlays, I prefer Hot Stamps!!!
