Alright ... so it's NOT a defect ...

I'd love to get myself a custom ASM set ... and maybe one day I will ...
but that kind of beautiful effect is one of the reasons holding me back.

I have to agree with the few that have said they just don't look good (or are unacceptable). For those that say they look fine and actually LIKE them, fine, you can tolerate that issue ... I think it's totally understandable for anyone who isn't aware that their chips may look like this when produced to be dissapointed, upset, confused, whatever ... I know I can't / wouldn't tolerate having chips like that.
All I know is that if I ordered custom ASMs and the edgespots were split (didn't go through the whole edge), I would not be happy.
... and in all fairness, I don't think your ( SDaye) chips look all that horrible (but they're not great) ...
only because I've seen much worse than yours ...

I see nothing wrong with these chips. Mix them in with the rest of your blues. Enjoy your chips. ASM customs are something to be proud of.

Re: Disapointed with my ASM...
This thread is really all about expecting perfection in an object that by it's very nature is inexact. I agree with others who've stated that if you want cookie cutter chips that are 100% perfect and exactly alike then you should not be buying clays.
I've got 2600 ASMs with inserts and many of them are imperfect. That's OK though and I love them. I had concerns with color matching on my original Club 517 order and Cathy was kind enough to have the chips in question shipped back to them at no cost to me. She had the craftsmen there review them and they determined that the matching was as good as it was going to get. OK, I accept that and they're great chps. Many of them also have split spots. Again, that's not considered a fault, just an imperfection.
I think your blues are great looking as are the others, split spots and all.

I have no reason to defend ASM, but I do have about or have ordered well over 20000 chips from them of every edge spot or color combination.
If you want to see a defect, order some chips from BCC then you might get some sympathy.

thanks for the good laugh
As others have said, the chips look fine.
Hey, I was just thinking how the so-called defect gives user/buyer a feel for real chips in use.

Re: Disapointed with my ASM...
I hear lots of people saying they have chips with this imperfection. And the example posted (Winners Club) are a perfect example of how this little "defect" actually adds character and is what is great about clay chips.
Well - I am going to go out on a limb and say that NONE of you have them to this extent. NONE of you have them where the edgespot is actually totally split on the rolling edge.
Now - someone prove me wrong. Post some pictures where the rolling edge of the edgespot is COMPLETELY split.
Like I said before - how much of the edgespot has to be missing before you would complain? Is there a point where you would say - "Hey - this isn't right"? Of course there is - to say there isn't would be a lie. I think these cross that line as they change the whole way the chip looks when stacked.

Re: Disapointed with my ASM...
I have to say that I can see, and even agree with both sides of this issue. I do agree with JM (and many others) that the chips aren't defects. As mentioned, making clay chips isn't, nor will it ever be an exact science. That being said, I know the folks @ ASM/PCOL do their best to set high standards for custom poker chips. And even though I haven't purchased chips from them they've been nothing but supportive and helpful when trying to help with any decisions that I have to make.
On the other hand, I can see where jello-broom (and others) are/is coming from. If you're willing to spend the $$$ for some custom chips you should, and do have every right to complain if you feel that the chips aren't up to certain standards. I also feel that spots like what have been shown are what "make" a chip, and I could handle a few like that. However, if I had that many (127) out of 500, it would probably bother me to.....

Re: Disapointed with my ASM...
Correction, those are Winner's Circle chips. The oversized Paulson Winner Club chips are absolutely perfect in every way.

Re: Disapointed with my ASM...
A handful of my yellow $20 chips were like that. Though I didn't really consider them a defect, I did pull them from my set. Luckily, I had ordered way more $20 chips than I needed.
If those interrupted spots are "normal" and not defective (some seem to argue that they're even desirable), then why aren't there any pictures of chips that look like that on ASM's home page. Just saying...
