How close is the HH mold to the Hourglass mold?

Jus curious about the feel of the ASM HH mold vs. the Hourglass mold. Are they equally as grippy and do they both stack well with inlays. I am trying to put together a custom set of ASM's and was hooked on the HH mold based on the feel and texture of the samples I have. I don't have a sample of the horglass mold, but like the way it looks better than the HH mold. If the only difference is the mold and not the texture and stackability of the chips, then I'll switch to the hourglass. I need honest opinions here, because I am crunching my income to put this set together. Also, are there any "spinner" issues with either of these molds when ordered with inlays? Thanks for any help on this, putting together a custom set is always on my mind and I have stopped buying chips all together just to save the money to make a good custom set. Oh, and I am not going with BCC chips, so I am not looking for anyone to say "go with BCC", I am definitly going with ASM, just need help with which mold.

Horseheads are grippier. Hourglass are a little slicker but there are no stacking issues or spinners as far as I can tell. I've got over 600 of them and not a problem with one of them. They're also all the same height too.

I think that was me. They're both very grippy. Personally, I think the HG is more grippy, but I haven't handled them as much. Let's just say they're comparable to the HH. If you like the look of the HG better, go HG. You won't be disappointed!

That is good to know. I didn't know there was an issue with the heights of the HH chips. I didn't even think about looking if anyone had problems with that. All 600 of your Hourglass molds came out good? That is also good to know. Gives me some confidence. One of my biggest concerns was spinners, that is part of the reason that whatever mold I choose needs to have some grip. Thanks for your input.

I have > 600 HH's and no spinners. However, there is some slight variation in thickness. With stacks of 20 chips, it's not a full chip width of deviation, but the difference in stack heights is enough to notice (and enough to make me double-check the count on occasion).

Hey Matty, I noticed that with your TRK Kings Crowns, eh?! Before the last tourney, I was counting out a T2000 with 20-20-14 (T5-T25-T100) and found nearly a full chip variation in thickness between stacks of 20. Thought you should know...

Re: How close is the HH mold to the Hourglass mold?

My input may be worth next to nothing seeing as how I've never held an hourglass mold ASM. Although, I can say that I have a bunch of HH's with and without inlays and they stack great. They are indeed pretty grippy which I like. Good luck, also thank you for your input on my label vs. hotstamp issue. -Bass

No problem. Those hotstamped HH's looked great. It had me actually thinking totally different on putting together a custom set. I keep looking at unstamped sets of ASM's and they are decently priced. That alone had me considering going with hotstamps instead of inlays. I just don't want any regrets when I make this plunge and based on prices, it seems I could put together a set of hotstamped somewhere down the road after putting together this set. I am also considering doing some lower denominations as hotstamps, like quarters and half dollars and maybe even some $1 chips to go with this set I am trying to put together. That leads my thinking towards availability. I can pick up around 500 plain HH chips for around $250 and I never see plain hourglass mold asm's on the market here or on ebay. That would make doing lower end denom hotstamps harder to do, unless I go through asm directly. So many ideas. I apprciate your input though and hopefully I will farther along on my decisions after I do my taxes and my return comes in. I was planning on using my tax return to pay for the chips .

Seriously? That's something I thought for sure you would mention slash I would notice... I need to check that. Really?

Just checked... Are you sure?
