Question about going with ASM for Customs...

Thinking about ordering a set of customs from ASM.

Question:
What are the pluses/negatives for having them deveop the artwork with you vs. working with a designer from say Chiptalk?

Thanks!

Re: Question about going with ASM for Customs...

I just ordered a set of customs through ASM...

My impression is you need to have a design pretty much laid out for them, that's where either you need to design it or have someone help you that does that. Sandy will assist on getting colors right, things moved and adjusted to the way you want, but i don't think she will necessarily come up with a design for you. I'm not sure how far they will take it though, i pretty much had the design already laid out when i sent it too her. She did bear with me through my dozens of changes though before i gave her the go ahead on the proof.

Re: Question about going with ASM for Customs...

Thanks for the info!
Do they need the inlay to be done in adobe photoshop or any particular type of software?

Re: Question about going with ASM for Customs...

Photoshop and Illustrator are preferable i think, but they'll take any good quality jpeg.

Any type of image will work, but if it's a raster image (png, tiff, jpeg, psd) it should be at a high resolution. Vector artwork is best (ai, pdf, svg).

ASM will design your inlay for free.

Some designers here do this for free and some request/require payment (sample sets, cash). Neither is right or wrong, I'm just saying that's how it is.

IMO, you can't go wrong with either, it just - like so many other things here - boils down to personal preference. Sandy added the finishing touches to my customs and nailed it on the first try.

Re: Question about going with ASM for Customs...

i havent worked with the people at PCO [yet] and im not trying to bash them or anything there are very talented designers here and i doubt any of them would come up with anything less than an absolutely killer design

Re: Question about going with ASM for Customs...

Bsoder, here's a link to see the recent process I went through here on Chiptalk when I set about on my quest for get custom ASM's.
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/custom...lp-needed.html
From the work that resulted from this thread, I then worked back and forth with Sandy at PCO and with Feen666 (who helped me with the artwork). Sandy works on a mac as I recall and it helped to get her the artwork in illustrator format. Feen and Sandy were awesome working up the final artwork. Depending on the artwork and which chip you use, theres gonna be some give and take on what is realistically possible. I initially wanted everything including the kitchen sink on my chips. In the end I was very happy with the final product and everyone at PCO was nice to work with.
