Custom Paulson Hot stamps...did I get your attention???

Steve5k was generous enough to provide a few Paulson Cardroom chips with a shaved-off hot stamp. I ran a few test stamps on them to see how they'd do.

My opinion is that they're promising but not ready for prime time yet. The shaving is very difficult to get even across the entire inlay. Any ridges or inconsistency causes issues with the die. You can see that by looking at where some lettering is imprinted deeper than others.

There are also areas where the outer edge of the chip picked up some foil. That's something on my end that can be resolved. I don't see this as an issue.

I may have some starbursts coming in that will have the hot stamp removed without shaving. These might turn out better given the consistent inlay surface, but I'm holding judgment until they're stamped.

Thoughts and comments are welcome...just keep in mind that these are a first-run test.

Not bad for a dummy run.
Exactly what was used for the shaving? Fine sand paper? Something more course?

I believe Steve5k used a drill press and a special bit to scrape the inlay area off. He'd have to comment on exactly what was done.

I agree...not bad for a test, but I need more chips to get it consistent. Those starbursts will help.

I was surprised by how finicky the Paulson chips are. If you don't stamp it just right, it'll miss some letters or stamp them too deep. They're a lot like ASM chips. T-molds (BCC) seem to be a bit more forgiving.

Interesting work. Do you think the center is too smooth? The metal bit make have had a case hardening effect. Can steve5k try some with a grinding disk?

Re: Custom Paulson Hot stamps...did I get your attention???

I love the idea of customizing hotstamps on paulsons, but it looks like you can see marks left over from the process used to take off the origional hotstamp. I can see swirls from the blade or special bit used. Kinda disracts me from the whole appearance. Also, how much of the chip was lost during that process? It would seem to make the chip even lighter. It might work better with some older paulson hotstamps where the hotstamps are almost competely worn off, less material would be lost and you could probably get the rest of the hotstamp off with very light sanding or using the solution people used to get the hotstamp off of the St. Joe chips. Just a thought. Nice first run though.

slap some oil on it, that would probably remove those marks. It did wonders for the TRK hot stamps.

Exactly. Worn hot stamped Paulsons may be an option.

Dumb me...I didn't even oil these afterwards. I'll do that.
