Chips: 11,925 | | | Asm - 3u - Not Available A lot of people have been asking this question in multiple threads, and for a very, very short time, some were able to get them. The Avalons being one set, and a few custom orders. But for the masses, they're just too difficult to produce, unfortunately.

He has the nerve to tell us this, and at the same time, rub it in our faces by using a 3U chip (on the hour-glass mold, no less) as his avatar!!! (can't wait to see those Chelsea's in person!) |

Chips: 76 | | | Re: Asm - 3u - Not Available Hey Matt,
As you have been able to get 3u chips made does that now mean that you can get them again in the future?
If so could you be 'persuaded' to organise a group buy for that style, and if so can we get different colours and inlays?
Just thinking 'around' the box
Regards

Simon | Having a group buy is not the issue, in fact that would make it worse. These chips are extremely difficult and time consuming to make, so to have a group buy for them would just make things more difficult on the production staff. |

Chips: 710 | | | Re: Asm - 3u - Not Available I too am one of the lucky one's with a 3U chip, basically I was able to contact JimB directly and persuade him to let me include 1 3U chip in my set. I already had good previous experiences with ASM and a casual email relationship with Jim so he graciously let me add 1 which I will be eternally grateful for.
In my 3U's there are some where the spots are a little irregular, but Jim told me that might happen and I had just accepted that was the way they were going to be because I felt lucky to have gotten them in the first place. The problem with most of us here on CT is that we're so totally ANAL about our chips that normally we would complain to everyone on the board about some of the less than perfect spots, which I'm sure Jim doesn't want to hear about when he opens up a 'special' spot to someone. So, I've been totally happy with my 3U's and count it as another excellent experience with the folks at ASM.
And, I have to thank Matt for urging me to contact JimB about the spot, Matt was totally open with me on how he got it to happen which was classy on his part.

BPT | I could not have said this better. In fact, I want to reinforce this comment because I've seen far too many people over the past year bitching about little things like edge spots being a bit irregular ( oh come on now! ), stacking size by nothing more than a mm or so, and on and on. It's a wonder ASM even gives us a discount much less the special edge spot options.
And there is something to be said for being a good repeat customer like some of us that once in awhile gets us a bit more consideration than the average buyer. |

BTW, I love my 3U's just the way they are. There is NOTHING wrong with them at all.
As far as getting them, like I said before, I believe I was just in the right place at the right time.
simonjp77,
Add ons to existing sets have to be the same artwork...or they're not add ons. So me re-ordering my 3U's with different colors and inlays wouldn't exactly work that way. |

Jim & I have a very good relationship and it was basically founded on the Avalon deal. Had I not put in a large order of those, and a subsequent cash set order, I'm sure that it wouldn't have been available. I was strongly told that this would be the last time I'd be able to get 3U as it's just too time consuming, and produces too many faulty chips.
