Chips: 25 | | | Advice on buying custom chips I am ready to get a set of custom chips. I want to keep the price range less than $400.00 for a set of 500. I have received many samples and am considering the Great Walls from the Poker Chip Lounge. I appreciate any suggestions or feedback. I am new to this site and there seems to be many people with a lot of information . Thanks |

get samples of all chips within your budget.
also think hard about how many you'll need. do you really need 500 or can you get by with 300 and have better quality chips? |

I second that! quality over quantity. It is best for you to get high quality chips to your liking and be able to add-on in the future. I think with all the poker on TV, we tend to believe that having alot of chips is a necessity. In reality, 300 chips can go along way for a home game.
Based on your budget, I think the best choice and one that you will not dump (once you have more funds and decide to purchase a new set) is ASM. |

Also, don't rush with your design. Many do and then regret it.
Lastly, check out the custom chip gallery threads to get ideas and see what others have done that you might like or not.
Good luck.

Get samples! Has that been mentioned already?

There's a big difference between a 300 and 500 chip set. 300 will accomodate about 5, maybe 6 players. Any more than that and your guests will constantly be making change amongst each other or working with some really awkward chip values. 500 chips, on the other hand, will easily accomodate a full table of 10 players.
In short, I'd advise always considering 500 chips to be the minimum when evaluating what quality of chips one can afford in a custom set. You really don't want to dump several hundred dollars into a 300 piece set only to have a 7th player show up and send you back, depressingly, to your 11.5g slugs.
In the OP's case, I'd go with the set of PI Great Walls. With $400, he could even bump it up to a 650 piece set.

Chips: 1,700 | | | Re: Advice on buying custom chips As most folks here will tell you, eventually you're going to go for top of the line, either clay or ceramic, might as well start now as opposed to going through succesively more expensive and better sets. |

Chips: 0 | | Re: Advice on buying custom chips I definitely do not recommend ordering from CUSTOM POKER CHIPS : Design Chips Online : TheChipLab.com by LoungePress. I know you have not mentioned it at all, but they have absolutely horrible to non-existent customer service and my chips have taken a very long time to get shipped. They do not respond to emails or phone calls. |
