Is it a "no denomination" chip? Especially for a cash set? If so, then it probably has just as much cash value as any other chip in your set.
Usually "NCV" (or the text "No Cash Value") is put on tournament chips that HAVE denominations (25, 100, 500, etc.) to indicate that they can't be cashed out for face value. I.e., they have no value, just like some coupons you use at the grocery store. If you want a flexible chip that can be used for several different denominations, I strongly advise NOT to put "NCV" on it, as that may be outright incorrect (in the case of a cash set cheque) or it may apply to all your chips (for tournament chips).
Example: All of my custom tournament chips say "NCV" or "no cash value". My non-denom cash set chip does NOT say "NCV" as this would be a lie. Sometimes it has a cash value of 5¢, sometimes 50¢, and sometimes $20 depending on the game/stakes. |

NCV + Non-denom =
NCV + Denom = Tourney Chip
For a home set, NCV doesn't really serve a purpose IMO. Are you afraid you won't recognize one of your tourney chips and accidentally cash it in from a cash game?
I just think there is a better use for the space that would be taken up by an NCV or "No Cash Value" text. |

I play cash and tournies with the same chips (not on the same day) so I don't have NCV or a denomination on any of mine. Well, on my biggest set anyway ... I've got a cash set of Samurai Palace that I just couldn't resist... |

Chips: 444 | | | Re: NCV or Nothing I agree with all the comments above. The use of NCV on a non denomination chip which may be used in cash games is a pet hate of mine, and a deal breaker when it comes to buying sets.
If you are getting a cash set, or might use the chip to represent real value, then it shouldn't have NCV on it IMO.
If it is part of a tourney set and won't be used in a cash game, and you have no cash value on all the other chips, and you want consistency, then I have no problem with it. |

Sometimes my blues are $5K tournament chips (NCV of course), but in a cash game they're worth what we say they're worth. 'Tis an odd bit of terminology. |

I do use the term NCV though to mean no CHIP value when referring to non denoms.

Guess I'll throw all those racks of NCV's away.
I see the point if you are doing customs, NCV may be confusing on the inlay when you intend them to sometimes have a value.
But if you can't get six racks of retired (or live) denominated quarter chips, what are you gonna do?
I will gladly use my racks of NCV's for fractionals in a cash game.
If I ever get a cash game started. |

Chips: 180 | | | Re: NCV or Nothing Let me be more clear I will have a cash set, .25C , $1 , $5 , $25 , $100
Then a T-set T 100, T 500 and a T 1000.
The chip I am talking about will play as a .10c cash chip or a T 5k chip. I really dont need it but that is everyones problem on CT. I think I will stay away from NCV. |
