Look through as many threads as you can in the "Custom Chip Mock-Up" thread and the "custom Chip Request for hire" section. This will answer a lot of questions for you on how to begin. I would recommend going to
www.chipdesignnetwork.com and registering for free. Then start playing around with color selections. Keep in mind which edgespot patterns and colors are available, and start tinkering. DO NOT hurry your decision or you will be unhappy with the end result. Get lots of feedback from those people whose opinions you respect, especially if you're married! Good luck!
Personally, it's my opinion that if you are a patient man, BCC is the best custom chip available. There are more edgespot options, more inlay size options, heavier chip, and potentially better prices!
I am ordering 1,000 BCCs with the heavier weight, 5 denominations, and Super Grand inlay for $1,200. I spent $900 (without shipping) for 620 custom ASMs. If I had ordered 1000 ASMs it would have been $1,450 plus shipping. ASM got my chips to me in LESS than a month though, from artwork approval to arrival!!!!! Dave at BCC told me 10 weeks (from artwork approval to arrival).
Here are the links to my BCC & ASM Custom pics and details.
