Chips: 934 | | | So what would you do on edge spots - Austin Skyline chips Question for everyone..
I've posted a new draft of my Austin Skyline chips, and I think I'm getting really close to having a final design (yeah right! LOL).
My question is this - on the edge spots, would you keep the number and size of the spots consistent across the set, or would you vary it?
Thoughts?

btw......real busy day at work. |

I'm a clay head, meaning I don't like perfectly lined edgespots. |

But I think it would diminish the impression of these chips. These chips are very stylized, and if you clutter the edge spots, you're going to detract from the overall impression the chips make.
If you put any variation in the edge spots--and my preference would be that you don't--I would keep the 3 lower denominations as they are, and be consistent with the 3 higher denominations. I don't know why I feel that way. |

I never liked the look of any print whether it be letters or numbers on the edge of chips. I have some chipcos with the denominations on the edge and it really bugs me, especially since it ends up being so small it becomes hard to read and ultimately pointless. Having some variations in the edgespots can give the chips some class. Maybe just vary the size, without adding multiple colors. Like have the edgespots get progressively bigger or smaller as the denom. gets higher. If you go smaller, then maybe if your chips are $1-$100 in value, at the $25 chip add another edgespot, then even another at the $100 chip. |

To me this is a very cool and relaxed design and putting up the denom AND name on the edges would just look too busy, because there's also not much text on the chip.
I guess I would also progress the edgespots with higher denoms, but it actually looks very clean the way it is now though.

I think they look great. I like the kinda simple style of these, the base and edge spot colors look cool, too. I especially like the different atmosphere on the chips: black and purple - skyline at night, red - dawn, yellow - sunny/hot day, blue - blue sky, green - dawn/noon
I agree with what was mentioned: don't mess up the clean and smashing design by adding further text or numbers, especially not on the rolling egdes!
I think you have enough variety by using different edge spot/base colors and combinations. Here, less is more!
Great design! |

I like the idea of 2 diff sets of edgespots. Not sure if they need to be broken low/high, or simply alternate. I do like having plain - awesome (low - high) but really I want to be able to tell by color and edgespot what the denom is. Ex, similar colors (light/dark) would benefit by having diff edgespots.
I vote NO for text on the edge. . too much clutter | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
