Re: Taking the Faux Dying Plunge!! Tips??

so...boil the water, mix in the pre-mixed dye, the the vinegar...all while the water is still boiling? Then dump the water into an industrial bucket and start adding chips, while stirring every few minutes...

I'm taking it the water will not be hot by the end of the 20 mintues or so correct?

I can't wait for my chips and stamps to get here!!! Did you guys just get the dye at Wal-Mart or something?

Thanks!!

Got the Dye at JoAnns fabric. And to correct you, or rather, how I do it...
After bringing to boil, adding all the stuff, I lower the heat, not turn it off.

Prepare to be frustrated. It will be a long long road ahead. But remember to stay positive and fight through it. Do it for the evolution of the faux clay nation!!

Oh...so you keep the pan on the burner? From reading a previous one, it sounded like he dumped the water into a bucket and set it in his sink...

Sounds like a recipe for a one shot deal, would be hard to replicate I imagine.

yes, in retrospect having one portion of dye kept hot is probably a better idea... however, I was able to do mine in batches of 200 in a large bucket... the only time I had to try to replicate a batch I had dumped the dye prematurely without realizing I didn't do enough chips... otherwise, I was able to get all of my chips done at once...

Re: Taking the Faux Dying Plunge!! Tips??

Well, my Faux Clays are in and aching to be dyed. I have the necessary goods. Are there any special prep procedures for the chips? I took them right out of the plastic wrap and put 'em in racks. Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully I'll have pics later this weekend...and join The Nation.

No prep for the chips, just get the Dye hot and chips go in 1 by 1.
