Faux Clay Coldstamping Issues...

Now its seems there are lots of questions reguarding coldstamping faux's. Tastic IIRC was the 1st one to try this. Sense then another CT'er has found someone that will make custom stamps for your fauxs... I have done this and wanted to pass along my experince so others will know the best method to pull this off to have a set of custom faux hotstamp fauxs.... Oh yeah BTW VIVA FAUX CLAY!!

Here is the stamp that I had made for my Faux's...

When I had the stamps ordered I asked about ink... I wanted to go with something just a little bit different (silver stamp). So I was told there is an ink that fit the color route that I wanted to go and it would hold up on plastic type chip, like Staz-On... Boy was that a mistake.

Here the stamp looks real nice... (I am still getting the hang of the stamping thing)... I did all 3 racks of blacks.

Let the chips dry overnight... Went to pick them up the next morning and noticed that I had ink on my finger. HUM... So I tested one out and this was the results. Not good....

So I have learned dont try anything new. Just go with what you know works. I hope that the extra $12 I spent on this "special" ink is going to be refunded so I can get the right stuff... Wanted to share this experience with others so you know what to do and of course what not to do...

Re: Faux Clay Coldstamping Issues...

Thanks for the heads up! Good to know.
Based on that and the fact that they might stick together when labeled I gonna leave the faux the way they are.

If you have any trouble to get them clean again, put them in denatured alcohol, I removed the golden foil and the black ink stamp from my St Jo's that way, worked great.

Re: Faux Clay Coldstamping Issues...

I've been a lurker on this site but am very interested in this cold stamping issue. Has anyone found an ink or paint that will work? I have 2000 of the cheap faux Ebay type chips that I use in a weekly tournament. I was told that the ink will never completely dry on these chips but that there is a type of paint that might. Any body given this a try?

The center of my chips is smooth, not dimpled like yours so I think it ought to work.

Where did you get your stamps made?

Re: Faux Clay Coldstamping Issues...

Staz-On ink works for sure on the FC's. I have just started the process with my custom stamps (I can post pics tonight).
The two issues I have run into:
1. There is a leraning curve for how much ink you need and the steady hand it takes when stamping so you don't get shadowed stamp results
2. Staz-On is definitely not like other inks - it is a PAIN to clean off the stamp. I tried using regualr ink/stamp cleaner with no luck. I am going to need to pick up some of the special cleaner made by Staz-On for Staz-On

Any other FCN'rs who have used Staz-On care to chime in???

I used the solvent cleaner on my stamps to get the staz-on off, it works great.
Be sure you fully rinse/dry the stamps afterwards though, a whole bunch of my T5000s have smudged anchors on them due to the stamp retaining some of the solvent when I switched colors. My own fault.

Re: Faux Clay Coldstamping Issues...

This is good to know. I have located a shop close by that sells Staz-On and plenty of stamps (no custom options though).

Thanks for the info bros.
