would he get away with it? yes. what that has to do with what's right or lawful, i don't know.
jojo I respect you as a mod, poker player and a teacher but whether or not he's breaking a civil law shouldn't be an issue here. If the issue is that it could shut down this site that Ten has built up to in my opinion to be one of the greatest sites that I have viewed, then yes it's an issue. Other than that, if Joe want's to gamble, then it's on him.

It's incredible to me that people would "red ligt" him on this. What was he going to gain if he made a set for Beekeeper? Nothing really, but he would have made her day. We CT'ers worry about copyright laws and again if it could close this site or cause Ten some problems it would be an issue. So some people neg him because of this, well it's bullsh!t in my opinion.

It's funny how it barely causes a ripple when someone steals a rack of .25 cent chips out of a casino and it's all good. That is theft anyway one looks at it but this is condoned by quite a few people on this site. Go figure.

Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set?

This one is getting to be like the last time that someone had some images copied. I feel that this is a site for chip lovers. I don't give a damm if Lucas suffers any damage because one of our members puts images on chips. I doubt he would suffer any losses at all. If the images belong to someone who is a member of this site, then I think the right thing to do would be to ask permission.

Joe is putting himself on the line when he offer to print up the chips. He is the one who will get sue if things don't go right. He will not make a ton of money by doing this, why attack him for trying to please a member.

priceless post. because joe has always gone out of his way for many people here.

what has my panties in a bundle - i am reasonbly pissed at CT?!!? ....

i cant lay blame, but chasing joe (PI) out of here was not brilliant. he was enthusiatic. he loves chips as far as i can see. he helped all.

baseline creativity is how i read what 10%r said.

what if i want to make a chip out of the lord vader poster my son put up above the recycle / garbage can? pix...

hmm... what about the brick firetruck red color my son decided to paint the millenium falcon.

you ppl are killing me.

im freaking thinking admiral akbaroe - "its a trap!" a $.02 chip. i am a fan.

i only neg yeltz & the other guy, once upon a time, when I could tell him to "hit yourself in the head with a hammer prior to posting that - SoG." dude said something wrong about the WTC attacks.

for me, CT is only forward production of chips. period. i want pix. no one neg'd me for requesting RIP captain america chips.... PI posted a killer chip... i responded. - case in point.

CT hike your freaking skirts or kilts up... look at what we've lost. PI. punks.

dude - how Freaking far do you take it? i can take a picture of lord varder above my garbage can.... can i make a chip out of it if my 6-yro scribbles 100 on it.?.. yeah... i can. as much as, someone can get a dunes tatoo. i am not sure what ct wants to achieve..." i love lawyers - SoG ".

one hand clapping... to the ct neg'rs... u r f00lz. negotiation of price rulez.

congrats on chasing PI away.

everyone has their own boiling point... maybe next we can alienate the euros.

someone has to stand up and say it.

PI is one of those guys that will stand up, get his walk on, and ship it.... how wrong is that?

Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set?

Wow, I'm amazed how folks have no qualms about ripping off artwork... I hate to bring it up, but does anyone remember how we first heard of PI? They were labeling paulsons with NFL registered logos. Joe did some major damage control and got back into favor...amazingly. The integrity of the site must be of foremost concern, if there is any way this site could be brought into a suit, it would be down in a day, then where would we be? The willingness of Joe to print copyrighted material is the major issue, before you know it there would be a group buy...and if anyone got wind, bye bye Chiptalk.

Come on folks, you've got to know this is wrong, hey I'm all for sticking it to the man, but when there could be collateral damage that takes out this site, there's no question.

One of the reasons we dont manufacture chips for a particular casino in Canada is this- I refuse to jump through hoops-- fill out a 43 page submission report that would literally take me weeks to do- then wait 60-90 days to receive payment. My point is- the right thing to do IS contact whomever for use of imagery- but from experience you would be urinating into the wind.

There is a line that is crossed all the time- whether by us- or someone who goes to office depot, buys labels, scans an image and prints labels for poker chips.

The difference is- we dont go out of our way to commercially market ANYTHING we feel will get us in a jam just to make a buck.

Does anyone really think that a board member of Lucasfilms will walk into a meeting and say- listen- we got a problem- Palm Imports made a set of starwars chips for some member of some poker chip forum.. how ya want to handle this problem...

If I was on the board- I would say-- send him free tickets to the next movie release- it HAS to be good for business for us- probably more people will go and see the film.

But I welcome someone to contact Lucasfilms and get permission.

Theres definately a few others who share my views- but they see other things that bother them other then what annoys me-
I'll be the first to admit my pettiness with regards to this rep system I strongly feel serves no USEFULL purpose to the core of Chiptalk- but it's not my site- I can only choose not to financially support it and just be happy being a member.

Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set?

Why even take the chance? It is stealing plain and simple. Why not create Palms casino duplicates and go cash them in at the cage? The Maloof brothers make tons of money, what are they going to miss? (sarcasm)

Sorry Joe.
LOL no need EVER to be sorry- this has nothing to do with your post- it has to do with my response(s)

My whole issue is the emails and PM's from people WANTING to comment honestly but not doing so in fear of tarnishing their reputation. THAT is the sad part- when a system inhibits the flow of ideas and information for fear of reprisal-
when this happens its time for that system to be abolished. Period.

Like I said in my thread....

I may not agree with what you say- but I will defend to the death your right to say it
( unless of course it gets me neg rep then I wont)

Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set?

I have yet to neg rep anyone, except Ahopen and Yeltzen. I just think there can be no blurring of any legal lines here. If you want to rip off artwork, do it privately in emails, just don't bring it here. Beekeeper daydreaming is one thing, offering to bring it to fruition is another.

Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set?

Some of you guys really need to get their heads examined.

Without Joe and his manner of going out of the way to help other Chiptalk members, this forum would be a lot less worth reading.

@Joe: You Sir, are a gentleman. I wish more people would really appreciate what you have done for this community. But I guess they will see when you no longer offer these Specials.

@Shades: I think you nailed it right on the head.

Printing Star Wars chips for a personal set is NOT like going to Walmart to steal something. This ain't the same. You are NOT hurting anyone with those chips. But you do hurt when you steal.

Making Star Wars chips ain't stealing. You people need to get this out of your heads.

Sure it is easier if you ask George Lucas if it is okay. But I think he will be rather angry getting such a mail and wasting his time asking such an irrelevant question.

And now: Let the Neg Rep flow, people. I can take it!
