I've hinted that perhaps we could just hide the rep system in one's control panel, so that if it stresses one out, one can just avoid it that way instead of leaving the forum.
Anyway, I hope you change your mind and were just venting (or that you were kidding). You crack me up enough with your posts (like the columbus ship joke) that I always get the "you must spread some reputation around..." when I try to give you positive.
Your company seems to be rolling out new products all the time, and I really admire its ability to expand its market. I'm sure that you won't miss the cheapskates on here as much as they'll miss you. | Naw Ive had enough- the neg reps keep coming in- weve closed most all of our threads and they will be deleted soon and we will cease to be a sponser- we'll stay on as a member but thats it. I'm not the only other sponser that shares these views- I did my part- I brought in a few paid sponsers to help support the site - I know of a few other sponsers that will be pulling the plug also--
I work too hard to put up with this rep nonsense- I do take it personally considering what I try and do for this site- and trust me- its not done solely for the money- its done out of dedication to this community.
I have alot invested with the ceramic business- its taken off immensely and I want to concentrate on that end. Pokerchiplounge will probably stay on and handle any needs of the community that we can fulfill.
Otherwise it will be nice to function solely as a member rather then both.

I'm surprised that some chiptalkers would negative rep anyone because a Star Wars fan fantacized about her dream chips, and a sponsor offered to help out. Weird and sad.
Sorry Joe. |

Truly sad to say the least if we are losing PI's services...I truly hope thats not the true reason you are leaving this forum over something so petty..but I do understand the frustration as nothing in this thread warranted any sort of negging and I didn't see anything on here other than people screwing around...if you are negging someone on this thread you need to seriously lighten up... |

I really enjoyed his contributions and made his forum a regular stop on my ChipTalk wanderings. I hope he gets a chance to cool down some and reconsiders. Say it ain't so Joe! |

Chips: 3,115 | | | Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set? Wowsers! I hadn't checked out this thread until seeing PalmImports' other thread about pulling the plug. I thought it must be one of Joe's jokes. This is nuts. Several months ago, somebody was brainstorming Star Wars chips, and I think I gave my input on which characters should go on which chips (they were custom labels for injection-molded, Nexgens I think, and I was recommending putting the appropriate rebel or imperial insignia on one side, and the character image on the other). Maybe one could do that to distinguish between cash and tourney sets - but it wouldn't really work for ceramics.
Anyway, the more important topic at hand is, what the heck is wrong with everybody? I ran into a "neg for no reason" thing a little while ago and it upset me, too. It's almost silly how much I was offended, as I hadn't meant any harm. Why don't those doing the negging try stating something in the thread first. I've only seen non-hostile discussion from those backing the "pro-copyright" side of the debate, and see no reason for anyone handing out negative rep. If this is what the 4C-club is all about, which I thought I agreed with until now, this is ridiculous. If anything, this thread was about creativity, and encouraging creativity... not about ripping companies (inventors, photographers, etc.) off. It asked some valid questions about copyright and fair use, etc., involved a little brainstorming, and BOOM!!! People are getting negged as if they just set fire to the Faux Clay factory!
What about all the other poker chip mock-ups that use copyrighted material? I'm not talking about duplicating existing chips - although duplicating existing chips for profit is definitely ethically questionable... I'm talking about all the minor artwork transgressions, like making custom chip mock-ups with artwork images taken from video games or using any animal pictures found on the internet or the logo of a favourite local sports team or college or whatever. Sometimes people take images and alter them slightly. To what level is an altered image suddenly okay to use? If I chane the colours or tint the palette a bit, is that sufficient? How about making the image funny? How about inverting it (like mirror image)? How about drawing it from scratch at 5000x magnification making a nearly identical copy? These are personalized custom poker chips for one person's use, not for mass market. I agree that it's illegal to reproduce unlicensed artwork for profit, but for personal use that only people invited into my home will ever see?
If I print an image that's freely available online 52 times and make a deck of cards (backs) out of them for my personal use, is that illegal? | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
