Wouldn't it be so much cooler if you actually wrote a letter and got written permission?
Also, personal use is not the same thing as fair use.

My 2 chips. | I appreciate your and everyone's input. Actually, I play poker with Troy Dehning, who writes Star Wars novels. He told me that because of all the extended franchising of Star Wars, Lucas Inc is very vigilant about not allowing others to use any of their trademark images. I have a healthy respect for their right and their views on the matter. I'm just a Star Wars geek.
Can you imagine a black $100 chip with Vader on it? Or a $25 Boba Fett? The Death Star, Storm Troopers, Tie fighters... Cash set could be the Rebels; tourney the Empire.
Fortunately I can't afford a custom set right now...
Thanks for the input. |

I have no artwork right now. I may take a class this summer on photoshop and then mess around trying to come up with ideas. I'll keep you in mind. Thanks. |

Thanks for the input. | yea I see their point- they made 17.5 BILLION dollars off of Starwars- I can see a custom set of poker chips really doing some serious damage
meanwhile- I got to get to work finding starwars artwork- got some spare time this week.............

Anyway, that Vader design is intense..... |

Chips: 507 | | | Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set? It's going to be so hard to source and get permission to use artwork that you "find" too, unless it's on a stock site for designers, even just for mockups.
In my web design business, I actually got an image owner really ticked off when one of my mockups using images "found" on the internet got accidentally made public and indexed by search engines. The images were going to be replaced eventually with something else, but to just get the idea across and as space fillers, I had "borrowed" some images for the mockup. I had absolutely no valid excuse for using his images in my mockup. It was saving me time and he felt he should be compensated for the time he saved me. I could only agree.
To create one's own images, unless one can get a convincing costume and decent photographer, one might first spend time learning to use a 3d program and render one's own images. There are tons of royalty free star wars 3d models available. There are reasonably priced 3d modeling software programs that can render realistic images, especially if you can figure out blender (I couldn't).
I don't mean to play dad, though. I'm not going to rat anyone out (unless they sell it to me for a profit as licensed and I get pissed when I find out that I got ripped off and bought "counterfeit" stuff).

see link: http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...yard-sale.html
As for who or what should be on each denom (yeah I'm dreaming) I think Yoda could go on the $25.
Though I would have to say Boba Fett wold be a close second.
Darth Vader would be the logical choice for the $100 but it seems that he would be higher because of rank.
The $500 chip could be General Grievous or Hans Solo.
For the $1000 chip if the Chip was Yellow CP30 but going with the orange chip this ould be my choice:
Lastly the $5000K chip would be chocolate and I have two or even three choices:
There are limitless options for characters on each chip but finding the right image may take some work.
I guess this would bea dream set. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
