I mean what department would you call? How do you get those numbers, etc etc ... | That's the hard part actually. And then being disappointed when you don't get a response, which is more frustrating than a "no". I recently tried to get permission to use some kokopelli art for a dealer button, and it was a pain. I emailed several cafepress store owners with kokopelli art, and then one that had some in the gallery in his web site. The gallery person gave me free personal use permission and never answered when I asked for commercial usage. One cafe press person that responded actually didn't own the art and was stealing his usage, yet offered to make me a custom derivative for $50. Apparently he didn't like the idea that his stolen art that he makes money from showing up on other products. When I asked him for the name of the original artist so that I could get permission from the correct person, he didn't remember where he got it from. He "found" it on the interweb.

Same thing, chips wouldn't be sold without a known image from the movie. When ASM said no they went to Trking. There have been numerous other copies/labels printed by other sponsors and no one cared(in regards to rounders). Hell there was even talk of another group buy for rounders replicas and no one gave a sh!t then. So why the uproar over a star wars chip. Same thing to me. |

Same thing to me. | I am on my 8th phone call with Lucas- spoke with 7 people- one laughed and said " come on- youre serious about this?"..
I commented who would even know OR care... laughed.. and he laughed.. and said- "exactly" but if youre serious I will try and put you through to the proper person...

It's the cumulative effect of nothing but copies, rehashes, tributes, replicas, basically crap that is being made. But people want cheap, they get cheap and there will always be someone there to make them with no originality.

I can understand this point but it's not how the thread went down. It turned into a copyright debate. I don't neccesarily believe crap is being made, nor do I believe their all cheap. I didn't hear anyone say what "cheap crap" trking rounders chips were. |

Im sure even the protege is similar to some other chip or artwork that is in existence somewhere so we cant have those either. Anything designed here is going to be similar to other chips or copies. Perhaps if the star wars characters were "altered" slightly and some wording changed, that would be acceptable, even though we would all know the true meaning of the images. Its impossible to come up with a new design that isnt similar to something else.
And as far as the neg rep thing goes, no comment because if you comment about them, people pile on with more. Kindof reminds me of when i was in Jr high school.. Adults need to act like adults.. |

Chips: 814 | | | Re: Can I use trademark images on a private set? I'm still curious why no one has a problem with someone going into a casino, getting a rack or two of .25 cent chips and walking out with them. Now they paid .25 cents per chip on a chip that probably cost the casino at the least .75 cents to over a $1.00 a chip. So they in all actuality stole the chip and in most states have committed a FELONY. Then the same person uses this site to sell the chips and people here buy them. Receiving stolen property FELONY (though it may depend on the value of what was bought). Now someone gets wind of this, finds out that it's condoned on a particular site, they go after the site, no more site. Probably would never happen but in my opinion, this is far worse than what Joe was going to do. I love chips, I love those .25 cent chips but anyway you look at it, it is wrong.

Be sure to let me know when there are cheap TRK rounders for sale. I've been looking for them and I can't find them. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
