Did you do the art yourself or did Johnny5 (frequent poster on ChipTalk.net) do the art for you? If J5 did the art than only the set up fee described below would apply.
Part of the $199 initial artwork charge is a $60 set up charge from Chipco for the dies and getting the machinery ready. This set up fee covers from one to four images. For five to eight images the cost is $120.00 and $180.00 for nine through twelve images.
Even if your art were submitted PERFECTLY than this fee would still apply. Unfortunately it would be impossible for your artist to submit us the art if the exact format required by Chipco and the learning curve is too steep to try to teach him/her to be a chip designer. So you'll need our artists to tweak the colors into our proprietary non-standard 80 color palette, add the "CI" mint mark that is required on every chip Chipco manufacturers and submit the art in the layered format that Chipco requires. There are also a dozen or so "hazards" that need to be checked for to make sure your chips come out perfectly. Our artist charges $45/hour. So basically if your artist is to do most of the "heavy lifting" with the art we can go on an hourly rate. Keep in mind that if your art requires more than three hours of our artist's time than it is actually less expensive to go with the flat $199.00 artwork fee. I've had customers that opted to go hourly thinking they had "camera ready art" but ended up paying more than $199.00.
We can give your artist a running head start... he/she needs to give us the art in Illustrator 8.0 in vector format. There is a chip design section of our site here:
http://www.homepokerchips.com/chipdesign.htm and a downloadable PDF version within our free membership area. This is the extent of what Chipco allows us to tell you about the art. Much of what they do and how they do it is considered proprietary.
Thanks for your interest in our chips and please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
