I'd really have to know the point spread first...

Re: Chipco vs. Sun Fly

IMO im going with ChipCo by a far margin... Once again Just my opinion...

I dont have a set of ChipCos, but do have a bunch of samples. I do have a set of Sun Flys which I love.

Both great chips and both are better than the other in their own way.

For me the feel and sound of the ChipCos are very superior to Sun Flys.

But at Sun Flys price you cant go wrong! A great deal for great chips.

Good point about the sound. That is another reason I prefer smooth to textured when it comes to Sunflys. Rubbing two textured chips together almost has that nails on chalk board sound. But with my eyes closed its very very tough for me to tell the difference between Chipco and smooth Sunflys. Nobody is going to argue that Chipcos are the nicest feeling ceramic. I'd go further and say I like it better than any clay. Blasphemy, I know.

So if youre at a table playing cards with Sunfly chips and Chipcos- and someone says " wow- these chips look every bit as good as the other ones"...
and you say-- yea, these were twice as much... and someone says-- really- why is that...
you say... listen to the difference in sound
hmmm I bet a few people would have a strange puzzled look on their faces

( LOL I'm being a wise ass- sorry)

Ive said many times- ya like Chipco- ya can afford Chipco- buy Chipco

Re: Chipco vs. Sun Fly

Well, textured Sun-Fly chips sounds a million times better than smooth Sun-Fly chips in my opinion. When I'm shuffling the textured ones I can't really think of a way they could sound better. The smooth ones do leave alot to wish for however. This is just my personal opinion though and I haven't shuffled ChipCo chips for some time now and can't remember how they sound but I think our textured chips sounds great. Here are some sound samples of textured Sun-Fly chips -->

Shuffling 10 chips

Shuffling 14 chips

Dropping 5 chips, one-by-one, on top of a stack

That was cool! Those files loading and played in nothing flat! I think they sound great, but of course I'm not that discriminating. Thanks, Matt!

Like I said SunFlys are a awesome deal... But would this response ^^ be rare for a ChipTalker

If someone asked me why they were twice as much, sound wouldnt be my only answer. Both chips have there pros and cons. Some obvious to everyone, some only us here at ChipTalk have any idea about.

Re: Chipco vs. Sun Fly

We all need our heads examined. We have guys sticking chips in the oven and others dying chips with kool ade. Sound would never be the the sole factor for choosing a chip, but when cosidering two very similar options like smooth and textured Sunflys it might make a difference. When I twirl textured or just rub two together they sound a little like Grandmaster Flash working the turntables, whereas the smooth chips have a "swishy"sound almost identical to Chipcos that I prefer. This is just one of the minutiae that I discovered.
