Ceramic Printing Process Question (Joe, Matt)

After seeing the picture below, got me to wondering about the process in printing up custom ceramics. Assuming the final artwork is in AI or PS format.
This is my GUESS below, Joe, Matt or whomever, please fill in the blanks(pun intended) as detailed as you can.

1. Print edge spots
2. Print top
3. Print Bottom

Now the questions:
How many are done at a time?
How is the process different for aligned edges.

I was surprised to see the EDGES were done first. Just hope it'll give some assistance in designing my next set.

Thanks

I have wondered this too, I'm also interested to hear the printing process.

Re: Ceramic Printing Process Question (Joe, Matt)

The process is a highly guarded secret and they won't divulge any of the information. I'd say that yes, you are correct in that the edges get printed first, then the faces.

for aligned edges the process would be the same, just a little more time consuming as they have to make sure the edge is lined up in a specific way.

it depends on whose printing and how they want to do the orders-- but you are correct- its an involved and guarded process requiring specialized equipment etc. Each chip maker does it whatever way theyre most comfortable with.

Thats why theres perhaps 6 people in Canada and the US who can do em well.

Lets see- Chipco ,Nevada Jack, Palm Imports, Gene at ABC, Ivan in Canada
Steve at br Pro--I think MAYBE one-two others but I'm not sure-

any others come to mind?

Well, don't want anyone to give up trade secrets.
Just trying to picture the PROCESS. If there's an order for 5000 chips, are they printed ONE AT A TIME? etc
