turning CPUs into card protector?

I collect amongst other things, microprocessors. I have amassed quite a collection of them. 386's, 486's, Pentiums, etc.

Anyone have any ideas on how I could take a Pentium Pro and turn it into a a card protector?

They look like this:

I would imagine there is some kind of solution out there that I could submerge the processor into and let it harden....

Anyone ever try anything like this?

Just curious.

Just take a grinding wheel and grind the pins off the bottom.

Funny thing is I already tried with one.... Ground the crap out of all the pins.

I cant make it smooth enough.... The little left over nubs on the bottom could easily scratch cards, or worse snag the felt.

I've never made anything myself, but this stuff is used ALL THE TIME in biology to prep specimens for teaching etc.

hmm, ok. You could get some acrylic then and encase it.

you could buy a clear expoxy and use a metal mold or some kind.

I've never worked with epoxy or acrylic before.... Time for a trip to TAP i guess.

Grind down the pin side, and get a piece of cloth (of some sorts) with adhesive on one side and stick it to the bottom (ground side). (or take a piece of scrap suited felt and some 3M spray adh. and stick it on the bottom side.

I wish I would have known. I just threw away a huge card board box of (probably) 100 CPU's. Everything from 386's up to P-Pro's and P-II's

I'da gladly sent them to you for your "project" !!!!

sad about the pentium pro's..

i got an unspecified # of racks that will need epoxy/acrylic help

here is one. i had to scribble over some in ms paint

all from the trash.

i am thinking rebuy chips for my home game

You could try maybe one of those dremel tools to trim off all the pins, then grind or sand down the remainder. Might work to smooth them better?
