Chips: 152 | | | Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! Hello fellow chiptalkers, my name is Bill. I have a problem.
I want, no I NEED a custom set of chips. I will soon be playing in a game. I have everything but the chips at the moment. I need help from the experts on all aspects here. I need help with a few aspects; design, quantity, and general advice. I know that many of you host/play in many games. I am trying to learn from your experience what works and what doesn't.
I would like to bounce ideas back and forth off of anybody that would be interested. You can post here, PM me, or even IM me on AIM/MSN, (PM for address).
I have a little FAQ that I will update once more questions come in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FAQ v1.0 Q: What company are you going through?
I am going through Sunfly. Anybody that is experienced with designing from their specs would be a great addition to my dream team of support. Q: How many chips?
I am aiming for my first order to be 1000 chips. I can add on later if need be. I will be running mostly 1/2NL which will progress into a 2/5(or 5/5) game. I expect anywhere from 5-15 players. I can add on if it is recommended. Q: Are you experienced in Illustrator?
Yes, I am somewhat experienced in vector imaging. The only problem is that I have a serious problem with original designs. I am one artistically challanged person, I admit it. Q: Do you have any ideas on what you want?
Chips with denominations of course! I would like a steady theme throughout the chips. I have been messing around with mockups. I have ideas that I like, and ideas I hate. I want to see what you think works and what doesn't.

Chips: 566 | | | Re: Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! I wish you luck Teph. I'm working on my second set of cermamics that I'm designing from the ground up. I haven't even got my prototypes from first set back yet and I'm already laying ground work for another set. |

Chips: 256 | | | Re: Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! I've played 1/2 quite a bit at casinos and I used to work at a Casino even cashiering in the poker room. I'd think for a good 1/2 game with a thousand chips you should have around:
400 x $1 ($400, duh)
400 x $5 ($2000)
160 x $25 ($4000)
40 x $100 ($4000)
You could play around with this based on your expected buy-ins but I imagine the typical player should buyin for $100-$200. This set should easily accomodate 20 players, but you could also cut out some of the $1 chips to increase your overall chip value depending on your expected spending for a night (how many people rebuy, etc.).
Here are some alternatives:
250 x $1 ($250)
500 x $5 ($2500)
200 x $25 ($5000)
50 x $100 ($5000) |

Chips: 113 | | | Re: Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! In order to truly get a design going you need a concept or theme to start from... Do you want your chips to look like a "fantasy" casino or card room?
ie: Teph's House of Card - Cleveland OH. Do you want them to have your name, initials, or something personal in the design? Or are you looking to recreate or pay tribute to an already existing design?
ie: WPT, WSOP, Bellagio, Palms, etc.
For me, it is all about designing the first chip. Be it a $5 or $25 or $100. After you have the first one, the rest just follow a pattern.
Once we get somemore info from you we can get something going, then we can worry about denoms, chip breakdown and quantity later.

~dustin | I don't really want to put a city/state on the chip, I would be very open to a possible room/club name though.
I am going to put my initials on the chip just like BG does, I think it is a nice, mild tribute/personalization.
I want to create a brand new set, but I want to do it by borrowing ideas from some chips that I love. For example:
I love the full face design of the Palms chip but hate that there are no real face-edgespots.
I love the "label" size of the WSOP chips, along with edgespot design, but I do not think that the designs translate well to a cash game set. (Weird, but just personal opinion)
I love the Bellagios. Everything about them, I love. I already bought a tournament set though, these need to be much different.
I really love Casino Windsor's $1 and $5 chips
I love the font/design of the denominations and the giant inlay design. This is the one thing I am thinking of for sure.
It looks classic and modern at the same time, that's exactly what I am going for.
These are all random thoughts, but that's how I work |

Chips: 732 | | | Re: Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! If your low limit is $1/2 I'd recommend a $2 chip. It's a great excuse to get another chip color/combo into your set and they will also allow you to have a smaller number of $1 and $5 chips (leaving more room for even more chips of course!).
Face it - at some point you're going to get a $0.25 chip just so you can play games with a cheaper ante. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon - and use them for the rest of your life. |

Chips: 152 | | | Re: Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! I will never need a .25 ante/chip, and a $2 seems redundant imo. I want a standard $1/$5/$25 set, there is really no going against that.

Chips: 152 | | | Re: Teph's FIRST ceramic design thread, paging all design junkies! Just wanted to thank everybody for their input up until now. I have received a few PM's regarding this. I still have not gotten in contact with anybody who is a vector imaging god. I know there are quite a few here, I beg for your creative genius!
Keep the ideas pouring, I appreciate all input |

The last week or so has been a total roadblock. Everybody stopped with their messages, input, everything!
I am still trying to get somebody that isn't artistically challenged to hop along this project with me.
