Chips: 9,295 | | | Help with my Chipcos I have a set of very nice custom chipcos that I need help with:
The problem is that although I like them, I rarely play with them. They are a non-denom (not NCV) tourney set geared for a T1500 tourney. My group of players do not like non-denom sets and much prefer T10,000 tourneys.
So, I have been cosidering trying to turn this set into a denominated cash set. If I modify the design to make it denominated and buy more chips, I can mix half denominated with half non-denominated chips and have a semi-denominated cash set. This idea isn't perfect. If I want to stay with standard colors (and I do), then I need to design a blue or white $1 chip and a 25¢ chip. I could live with the yellow chip being a 25¢ chip, so that's only one additional color.
It would be like buying more than half a new set of chipcos, but would let me play with these chips. These are customs and not collectors chips, so they deserve to be played with. I may well pull my bankroll out of pokerstars and that would likely cover my expenses (I can't really afford to play online poker if it's really illegal and they're enforcing the laws. A conviction, even a misdemeanor, could cost me my Texas medical license - something I really can't risk.)
Questions:
Is this whole idea stupid and I should just get my buddies to play with them like they are?
If I do this, how do I add a denom to the design? Do I drop either the DC or the wine bottle graphic and put a denom in its place, or stick a denom into the existing design?
If I'm going to mix denoms and non-denoms about half and half, should I make all of my $1 chips denominated or mix them as well.
and lastly,
Blue or white $1 chips?

I think you could pull this off pretty easily. Instead of the "DC" on the obverse put your denomination. Use the same font and it will look like an awesome set that is supposed to be that way.
I am always partial to the white $1 chips and I think that may look better with the yellow $.25. JMO though.
Go for it.

PS - Screw your buddies if they are complaining about playing with your custom chipco's. Invite me over. I will bring my paulson cash set with me for ring game action after the tournament.... ah... if I only lived in Texas. |

Put it on the side with the DC, and go with one of two options:
1. Decrease the size of the DC, raise it closer to the top of the chip, and put the denom underneath it in black
2. Layer the background -- instead of having the DC as the top layer, blend it into the background, and put the denom over top of it in a contrasting color (ie. black)
Order half the amount of each color that you currently have -- ie. 50 if you have 100 already -- and mix them into the set. That should give enough of a penetration of "denom" chips into your current set to please your poker buddies.
(And if it doesn't, then I agree with the previous poster who advised: "Screw 'em!") |

I agree, though. Just replace the DC w/ the denom and you'll be set. |

Seems to me that I'd prefer to deal with a bunch of East Texas rednecks -- at least the worse that'll happen is I get beat up some, instead of walking around with "the mark" around my neck... |

Oh yeah, White for the $1. Good luck.

Oh yeah, White for the $1. Good luck. | Too similar to my custom clays, but I might do a larger denom with a smaller DC below.
