SECURITY! is it REALLY a big deal???

One thing that really cracks me up regarding homegame custom chips is how concern some people are with security. I mean honestly, how important is chip security in a home game? Out of all the criteria that makes up a great custom, where do you guys rank security?

For me, chip security is propabably one of the last thing im concerned about in a home game and here is my reason,

1. I will only invite friends and relatives to the weekly home games

2. We only play low stakes. Not because i don't play high! but anything over 1-2 NL, i prefer to play in a casino where my winnings come from strangers instead of close ones.

The thought of playing High Stakes in a home game is something that really boggles my mind and I really doubt that one would invite a perfect stranger in. Now if you talk about "unique" or "rareness" that is a totally different thing. Of course, I don't want a bunch of my custom ASMs to be roaming around on EBAY, but this has more to do with having a unique item that no-one else has than being afraid that someone will end up sneaking a chip into my daily home game.

Give me your thoughts

seriously, you've brought this up more than once before. okay, you don't get it. others do. there's plenty of times that friends of friends, or new aquaintances (through CT or elsewhere) come to my game, and in even a small NL ring game we use $5 chips.

money matters, so security matters.

Re: SECURITY! is it REALLY a big deal???

Security is not very important to me, but would be if I played decent stakes cash games.....Only friends/fam play with me, and occasionally a friend brings a friend, but the most anyone has lost in a day at my house is $30-$40 since we just do $10 buy-in SNG's, sometimes $20 (2 per night)...

If I ran a cash game with $5, $25 or $100 chips, then security would be an issue since you can't trust a lot of peopl, but not for me right now.

While I play with friends, it's important. We play high than average stakes.

Re: SECURITY! is it REALLY a big deal???

I think it's very important. I use different chips on different nights for such reason. I don't want a chip lama. (bring chips from one game to another, elsewhere / in to my game)

I've had my bank come up $250 short one night. Security is one thing you don't think about until you have an incident which predicates it. After such time, you usually change your operating process and watch things closer than ever before.

There is another game in town that I play in, which is a higher stakes (actually mid stakes) game, $10/20 NL, and there was a chip lama in that game, bringing chips in. They used a very common chip which was avail from several vendors over the Internet. The bank ended up covering about 5K in losses over 3 weeks. Everyone questioned how could it happen, everyone knows everyone, etc., etc., etc., but people do some strange things when *any* amount of money is involved.

Security is my secondary reason for doing a completely custom chip, other than the chief issue, being that I want a custom chip, personalized to me and can't be bought anywhere. And I know that when I have those chips in play, security is increased. Solves one issue of a game being secure with outside chips coming in. Versus playing with NJ Skulls for example. Same example as with cards and people bringing cards in.

To me, yes, it's a huge deal.
Not only the security of the chips and the bank from players (or ill willed players), but security from outsiders coming in with ill intentions. (a game getting jacked for example, which I've experienced, and can tell you from first hand accounts of being held up at gun point, it's no fun)

So, I look out for the security of the game with cards, chips, the players.
