I value security but more important is that I want all the guests around my table to feel safe as well.
The truth is, that someone already stated, that friends could mean anything from a childhood best friend to someone that you learned to know quit resent or even this persons friend. Money issues are hard to handle for some and there are unfortunately many people that are dishonest.
If I would have chose playing with the chips sold by the gasstation down the road I am sure that someone pretty soon had got the vivid thought of buying a set for himself and bring chips to the games. |

You know what they say about car door locks right? They won't stop a pro from stealing your car or keep a determined thief from breaking in to steal your radio/ipod/other valuable left lying on the seat, but they help keep honest people honest. I don't seriously expect any of my players to try to bring chips to my game with the intention of ripping off the other players, but I have custom chips so that temptation isn't even out there. |

One of our vendors came by and we were talking about this post- we do his chips with imbedded security- heres what he said-
since we use the same chips each month- if we have a large payout/cashin we check the chips to make sure they are the CURRENT month's chips-- this stops someone from bringing old chips to the game and having an unfair advantage or starting the new month's game with additional chips from prior months
So maybe in SOME instances there's a good purpose for it--
The more we think about it- the more we believe alot of our " home game" chips we make are being used for more then the casual " home game"

how much for 8k $1 and 2k $5 again? |

I do use my set for casual home games, as well as not so casual games. And the occasional...... "other" games.
So yes, security is important to me. |

Of course it's important. This is a silly thread.
Just because the OP plays with the same 5 people that he's always played with and has known for his entire life, doesn't mean we all do. I almost never turn away new people to the game. Why would I? I want the action.
So yes, security is important.
Whether it's a tourney game, or a 1/2 no limit game, my chips get counted at the end of every night. I bring them in chip racks, so it's not exactly hard to count them when they're put away, I have to stack them in 20's anyway. |
