GOOD post and topic | I don't really see the point of having security features built into the chip. First off, no one is going to make custom chips that look like chips at your game and try to slip them in; they're going to try to buy the same ones you use... which come with the same security features (if any). Besides, who inspects every chip on the table with a UV lamp... at their home game?! Seriously. I mean, I even saw that UV pen that was in a thread recently. Definitely cool, but really, how practical is it? If you have a UV light in your otherwise very dark card room, it might look cool, but otherwise... Now, if you want to mark stuff so you can catch someone stealing your stuff and want to prove it's yours, that's different (like taking your chips that are worth $25 each or something), but I don't think that's what this thread is about. |

Where does everyone keep the cash thats collected in the beginning of the night and throughout. That's my concern.
I'm more concerned about people walking out with a handful of my ASM's than walkin in with my Faux Clays. |

We (the house) keep a cash register for change so there is NO reason to open the drop box unless someone is cashing out, then there are mulitple witnesses to the transaction. |

When i play in Canada with my buddies, we just keep the cash in the chip case. The chip case is like 3 feet away from the table so its really informal.
"MONEY MATTERS SO SECURITY MATTERS"!!!
No sh+t! No one is saying it doesnt matter just how much. |

Security is not important in MY home game but I know of other high stake games where it is of umost importance. |

A UV light with a stamp or something on the chip that identifies it as yours, takes care of that issue. Not often does this happen, but there are those games out there.
Until your bank comes up short, and you have to take your own hard earned money out of your pocket to cover the losses and cash players out, the issue of security is non-existent. |

Not a big issue for me at all, although I completely accept the principle that money matters.
Four reasons really.
1. My home game is more normally a tournament set up, so pulling in a couple of extra chips isn't going to wreck the integrity of what is going on.
2. I'm the only person in the game that would know one end of a clay chip from the other, so the liklihood of anyone even knowing where you could get an NCV Pharaoh or a Samurai is tiny.
3. Friends of friends are not invited. I play with people that I have known for years.
4. Our stakes are very low (microscopic compared to OTB's) . If there was ever more than $400 on the table between 8 players it would be a miracle.
So, for me, the extra security gained by a custom set is not important.
Clearly I can see that if you are playing 10/20 NL with people that you have never met, then it would be. I would need bars on the windows and doors before I let that amount of cash into the house. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
