If someone brought in $100 worth of extra chips that money would come out of my pocket. I rather not deal with that so thats why I have customs.

Anybody ever worry about people sneaking chips out..Ya know like the your $1000 PNY thats worth 25 bucks....Do you really count all your chips at the end of the night to make sure there all there.......Security is a huge issue no matter how you look at it, either you get the people stealing your chips or the ones that think they can win by bringing more chips in... |

In home tournaments it really doesn't matter but would you still watch people shuffle, cut and deal the cards. Granted in your own home game you may know everyone but they may not know each other.
I agree though that I really wouldn't enjoy winning big off of friends family but it is still better then paying rakes and tokes. |

Not all home games consist of the same group of really close friends every week. Alot of home games have new players coming and going all the time. Friends of friends, people who heard about the game through the grapevine, etc. Thats why security is important. If your game is only the same close friends every week, then security isnt as important. In short, YES, it REALLY is a big deal!

There was a post a while back where it was determined that some folks here play with chips that worth more than their face value and if thieves raided the game, they'd get more for the chips than the money. Yeah. A little. On the hand I only paid $3 for that PNY $500 chip they took out of the game. I am willing to lose the chip for $497 profit. In fact, they can have as many as they want. |

With full 100% custom chips (ASM) even if anyone, ever, even had the faintest thought of bringing in their own chips to our game, (when we used cheap chips) those are all squashed now.
If someone wants to cheat now, they would have to steal from our chip tray.
And now we are talking a MUCH more punishable action.
The people I play poker with (for the most part) are my friends because we play poker together. I met them through poker, and have no idea what kind of lives they led before we started playing together. We don't sit around and gab about life back on the farm, we play poker.
Put me at a table with my friends (guys I've known since grade school) and we could use bent bottlecaps for $100 chips and I would trust them with my life. |

It probably wouldn't be too difficult to slip a non-stamped chip (or 10) onto the table, although the chips are counted at the end (in racks), so I'd quickly notice if anyone had been slipping chips into the tournament.
My home game chips are Samurais and they're relatively rare (especially in Canada) so I haven't worried about it at all. I think as soon as someone figured out the cost of getting some, they'd realize it probably isn't worth the risk given the small amounts of money we're playing for (generally less than $200 on the table on a given night).
I have been invited to several home cash games with $40-$100 buy-ins where dice or NJ ceramic chips are used and I've been worried about security myself. It sure wouldn't be difficult for someone to slip some $5 or $25 chips into their stacks... and those chips are so common it's mind-boggling! Again, it hasn't been a problem yet (we are all polite Canadians afterall), but I worry sometimes. |

It's just the way that i see it though - i really dont think anyone would go that much out of the way to scam a low stakes home game ($20-$50 buyin), especially if they are your friends or purely just poker buddies. Especially seeing that if every time they come over they bring a case or two. But yeah, i mean if you are playing $20-$40 , then i guess it would be better to be safe than sorry. Still, i like to keep high stakes outside the house and against strangers. Yeah, but in a $50-$100 Buyin, at least get some NJs man!
