The reason Illustrator is best for this is that it is vector-based....meaning it is resolution independent....make your text the size of a building, and it stays smooth, no jaggies.

someone told me that the new photoshop can use vector text- I still work in 7.0 and AI CSII but anyone know if Photoshop CSII is vector?
I just brought up Photoshop CSII-i t appears text IS vector- can someone confirm this?

When you work in Photoshop, it might be vector, but it all depends on how you save the file. If you leave it as a .psd file with the text layers not rasterized...then yes, it is vector. But you cannot take an image, add text, save it to a jpg on a website, and then expect to later enlarge the image without the text looking jaggy. So, have a working .psd file...and save in different formats for distribution.
