Chips: 5,871 | | | Re: Progression and Denom Preference I agree that each chip really should stand on its own and should look good. Its probably the only issue I have with the Protege line is that the "cash" chips (.25c, 1, 5) are pretty bland compared to the tourney chips (25 and up).
My ASM set, when finished will be as follows:
212 - .25c
4A14 - .50c
6A14 - $1
3D14 - $5
4D14 - $20
There is still a visible progression (2 single colors spots, 4 alternating color spots, 6 alternating color spots, 3 double color spots, 4 double colors spots) in these while each chip is sufficiently attractive on its own |

Chips: 215 | | | Re: Progression and Denom Preference I debated about this myself. My order was a cash set for 50/1.00 or 1.00/2.00 limit, so most of the chips in play will be 25c and 1.00. I also have a $5 and a $20, and in the end I went with the more basic patterns on the low denoms. I figured there will usually be some 5's and occasionally 20's (when people rebuy) on the table, so I think they will all see action. |

Chips: 59 | | | Re: Progression and Denom Preference my asm tourney set is 3d14 only, because this spotpattern is simply the most beautiful. But to have some progression the spot colors are very similar to the body colors on the low chips (5 & 25) and contrasting on the high chips (100 & 500) http://www.drsnet.de/~manu/poker/bgfinal.jpg
my asm dream cash set would be
514 .25€
414 1€
3d14 5€
2d14 20€ (yeah, imagine this beauty: yellow 2d14 Blue/gray)
i really don't like the typical 214 .25 chips, because i think the main argument for spots on low denoms should be that the opponents stacks can be counted easily with the eyes. |

The ASM cash set we just recieved:
.50 cent - 214
$1 - 314
$5 - 4A14
$25 - 3D14
I wanted my customs to be a progression of "complexity" as the denominations went up.
That way if ever in the future, the wife approves another set of 1000 ASM chips for a tourney set (providing ASM does another "pick your own" group buy through here)
I would use:
$25 - 3D14
$100 - 4D14
$500 - 6A14
$1000 - 8A14 (I can dream, can't I?) Or 6A14 again with closely matching edges to the base, like Yellow base, DG yellow & DG Peach spots.
That way the entire set progresses in complexity with the higher denoms getting more and more "valuable looking" and are not out-shadowed by the lower denoms we use now for our cash set.
I doubt this will ever happen as our 1200 set of labled NexGens for tournaments seems to work wonderfully, and I should have a "high stakes" set of the Bellagio Tribute chips coming for my file and color work on them.
Either way, I wanted our cash chips to somewhat "best represent" the style of chips we use in the casinos, and you don't often see something like a 3D14 being used as a $1 chip which is the bulk of the chips in play at our table. |

There are no right or wrong answers. For me, since I like to keep my home games friendly, the 0.25 and 1.00 are the most used (appx $25-$50 buyin). Any higher, i usually prefer playing at the casino as I do not want to crack my buddies any more than a $100. So with that said, I think having a simple progression for the 0.25 and 1.00 is quite boring. I like my buddies to have an OOOHHH AHHHH kinda feeling when they see the chips at the beginning and it's kinda hard to do that with a 214,312, 314, and even a 414 (w/ white edges). |

Chips: 14,816 | | | Re: Progression and Denom Preference My new ASMs arrived today (fresh pics in the custom gallery). Here's a shot of the progression I mentioned previously, ignore the 5 chips in the top row, that was the original configuration, bottom 5 are the new colors patterns.
You can see the most complex end up in the center of the set and hopefully get the most play time on the table. It progresses up from the $5 chip as 312, 314, 3d14, 6a14, 4d14, 4a14 214. (The $1 and NCV chips aren't really part of the overall progression)
