Chips: 18 | | | Ceramics Questions Since I can not get the exact colors from ASM (Navy Blue), I have turned my attention on a ceramic set. It seems like Chipco chips are considered the best around here but I have a few questions:
As far as the graphic lasting on the chip, what is the best company to go with?
I am confused on the "smooth" vs. "textured" face amu help?
Thanks. |

Thanks. | The top two are ChipCo chips. The bottom is a Nevada jack’s chip. ChipCo's are smooth and in my opinion have far better graphic quality as far as clarity. Durability is better on the NJ chip but it’s not worth the trade off on clarity. The issue you will get with Chipco chips is the white ring effect. The chip on the right is an actual casino chip that has had hundreds of hours of play and it’s subsequently caused the graphics to wear a bit on the edge; it wasn’t designed with a white ring vs. the chip on the left. You can see the ring around the edge on the left chip is sharp and this is because it was printed onto the chip that way to help hide the wear that will naturally occur only after A LOT of use. Under home conditions it will take years most likely for you to even notice any kind of wear. Chip co is absolutely the way to go if you don’t mind spending a few extra bucks in my opinion. The texture thing is something else. 1st, you need to get samples to experience it for yourself but as you can see the difference is pretty significant. Keep in mind though that these images are extreme close ups and your eyes really can’t interpret things for you fingers in this case. Did I say GET SAMPLES? You won’t find Chip Co with texture like this but there are some others out there such as Palm Imports and ABCGifts that also offer textured and non textured. Keep in mind also that even the non textured chips from these other companies are not exactly the same as Chip Co chips so again, get samples. On the other hand the chips offered but ABC/Palm Imports are still excellent options and you can save your self a bit of money if you go this rout.

The sad thing about Chipcos, as mentioned above, is that IT WILL WEAR. It is a comfortable feeling to know that your chips will age well (that's why I prefer clay) like wine. Even though it will require numerous hours before any wear is noticeable on a chipco, it is very distracting (at least for me) to know that one day it will happen. |

Chips: 1,617 | | | Re: Ceramics Questions I can only give you my option, but I have samples from a few now. I have decided (at least mostly decided) to go with chipco... a little more expensive, well for my chips a little more than a little!! But when you feel them you will know. Like circle said you need samples. If money is an issue, then go with ABC or if you are in Canada (can't remember where you are) go with straightflush.ca, they have the same blanks as palm but you don't have to worry about duties.
Smooth vs textured... tough question. I give the samples I have to various people, players and non-players and to be honest they all like chipcos best... then #2 is a draw between smooth and textured (from either ABC or the Palm samples) so it comes down to personal preference... I like textured if I was to get them, they will hold up better over time I think, but they do have a certain feel to them. Smooth seems to me like it will wear more.
Anyway just my .02 for what it's worth I guess it all comes down to dollars |
