Chips: 1 | | | Commemorative Chip of Friend that Died last night. I play a regular game with 10 other guys.
Last night one of them was in a fatal car accident.
We are all pretty upset...
Anyway, my question is:
Would it be in bad taste to get a ceramic "commemorative set" made with his name or picture on it? |

But the greatest tribute you can give is to honor his life in some way that lives on. A commemorative chip sounds like the perfect keepsake, for his family and all those who knew him. What a wonderful way to remember him, and a fitting reminder of the good times he brought to your group.
Maybe you could "donate" the buy-ins from your next poker tournament to getting a commemorative chip made. Then play the tourney with an empty chair for him, laugh about the things he used to do, quaff a few of his favorite beverages, and say good-bye with laughs, tears, jokes, and anything else that comes out.
Please give my sincere condolences to his family. |

Now I am starting to feel kind of sick... | I felt the same way. I made a post about this back in March. I was with him one day, and the next day I got a phone call that he was killed in a car accident. I was devastated. I was in shock. I just couldnt believe it. I thought there had to be some kind of mistake (the information came from someone that I didnt know). I even tried calling his cell phone. Then about three days later when I was driving down the road by myself during the night, it really hit me. I just broke down. Its been almost three months, and I still think about it alot, especially when Im driving. Even right now as I type this I am getting choked up. May your friend rest in peace. |

Chips: 947 | | | Re: Commemorative Chip of Friend that Died last night. I would rather have a chip made that would display his name as opposed to one with his pic. But I am biased against pictures on chips. I like simple graphics. So maybe like a fan of cards with his name around the chip.
Or you could name your poker group after him..... i.e. the Joe Smith Memorial Poker Club. and have that around the chip. |

Now I am starting to feel kind of sick... | It's OK to feel horrible, that's natural when trauma occurs.
A few months ago, my (only) brother tried to commit suicide and was in the ICU for almost a full day. He survived by the skin of his teeth, but during that day, I was physically ill, mentally stunned, and emotionally wrecked. My wife could just see it in my eyes that I was not right.
I think the best thing to do is honor and cherish your friend and to talk and laugh and remember him as he was. Maybe make a special plaque to put on his usual chair, and have a rule that whoever sits in it has to ask his permission when you play.
I could not imagine of one of my friends and poker buddies (some of my weekly poker buddies are closer these days than some of the friends I've had for 30 years) not being around.
So sorry to hear about your loss, my thoughts and energy are pointed your way, wherever you may be. |

Let me know what you need- it would help if you had a concept or artwork- maybe someone can lend a hand- but for you- and the other CT member who lost his friend-- if you need a handful of ceramics done as a commeration gift- consider it done- no charge.
